This title offers a beautifully produced tribute to the 2000s, featuring images straight from the archives of the "Press Association". This illuminating collection offers fascinating images that depict both major historical events and smaller, but no less significant, occurrences. It presents a beautiful gift idea, either as a stand-alone title or part of this invaluable series. It is part of a series giving an insight into major historical events in Britain from 2000 to 2009, plus smaller occurrences that had equal, if not greater, significance for the people of Britain. Amid a climate of flooding, heat wave, gales and global warming, cannabis is downgraded, cigarettes are banned from public places, and knife crime escalates. An Internet and telecommunications boom spawns social media microblogging and reality TV gives 'fifteen minutes of fame' to ordinary people. From the onset of foot and mouth in the first year of the new millennium to concerns over swine flu towards the end of the decade; from the anti-capitalist riots of 2000 to the collapse of major banks and the credit crunch in 2008. This book contains around 300 photographs, hand-picked by PA Photos' own archivists. Many of these images have lain unseen since they were used as news pictures when first taken.

This is a visual, historical guide to the development and growth of rugby. It includes almost 300 hundred images from the Press Association archives that capture Rugby's finest moments. It also includes background to the most successful teams, greatest matches, a players' hall of fame and guide to the hallowed Rugby grounds. As far back as the 1830s a form of rugby was being played at Rugby Public School, after pupil William Webb Ellis first picked up a football and ran with it. In 1863 the Football Association met to standardise a common set of rules between the kicking and running games but failed to meet with the approval of the rugby fraternity. Twenty-one clubs refused to join the FA and in 1871 set up their own code of practice as 'The Rugby Union'. The popularity of the game quickly spread beyond Britain's shores becoming an international sensation. 100 Years of Rugby in Focus is a visual, historical record of the development and growth of the game, with background to more than a century of the most successful teams and the greatest matches, a players' hall of fame and a guide to the hallowed grounds where the game is played. This story is told in more than 400 photographs from the vast archives of the Press Association, whose photographers were on hand to capture the finest moments of the sport over more than a century.

This is a unique collection of 250 photographs celebrating the life and long reign of Queen Elizabeth II. 2012 marks the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. New in paperback, this compact edition - with the same extent as the hardback! - is a lovely gift book offering fascinating insight. HRH Queen Elizabeth II was crowned Queen of the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth, in Westminster Abbey on 2 June, 1953 at the age of 27, the 40th monarch since William the Conqueror and the great-great granddaughter of Queen Victoria. She celebrated her Silver and Golden Jubilees in 1977 and 2002 respectively, her 80th birthday in 2006 and in 2012 will celebrate 60 years on the throne, equaling Victoria as the only British monarch to have celebrated a Diamond Jubilee. During Elizabeth's long reign the world has witnessed sweeping changes, not least of which was the dissolution of the British Empire. "Queen Elizabeth II" records the major events of her reign, during which she has carried out her duties with a huge programme of visits in the UK as well as many foreign tours, her world travel being unprecedented by any previous monarch. In an age when photography has become the ubiquitous medium, the Queen has been one of the most photographed women in the world, with strong media interest ever since the days of her childhood as a young princess. Revealed here in almost 250 unique pictures, taken by photographers of the Press Association over a period of more than 80 years, is a fascinating documentation of the life of an extraordinary woman.

It takes a look at the legacies of the war, including the establishment of the United Nations and the European Union. The Second World War was the deadliest conflict in human history. The Second World War broke out in Europe in 1939 and spread rapidly around the globe, involving most of the world's nations and all of the great powers. The most widespread war in history, the Second World War involved more than 100 million people who served in military units. Moreover, the major participants adopted a state of 'total war' whereby the nation's entire economic, industrial and scientific capabilities were dedicated to the war effort, removing the distinction between military and civilian resources. It was the deadliest conflict in human history. Legacies of the war include the establishment of the United Nations and the European Union to encourage international co-operation and prevent future conflicts.
