Många känner till Stig Dagermans bok Tysk höst där han skildrar efterkrigstidens Tyskland. Vad de flesta inte vet är att han fick ett nytt uppdrag av Expressen i slutet på 1947 – Fransk vår – som han aldrig fullföljde. Det blev bara några artiklar och ingen bok. Varför misslyckades han? Journalisten och författaren Anna Franklin följer Dagerman i spåren från 1947-1948 och hittar olika trådar i hans skrivande som leder fram till vår tid. Hennes Fransk vår fortsätter där Stig Dagerman slutade. Hon skildrar livet i Frankrike 2023 där folk fortfarande brottas med höga priser på bröd, fattigdom och politisk oro. Dagerman skrev också om motståndsrörelsens hjältar – hur såg det ut då och hur ser dagens fransmän på minnet av andra världskriget, ockupation och medlöperi? Finns en kollektiv skuld för medverkan till Tysklands folkmord på judar? Dagermans intresse för existentialismen skulle ha lett till artiklar om de kända caféerna där Jean-Paul Sartre och de andra satt och diskuterade filosofi. Hur står det till med den franska existentialismen idag? Finns den? Alla Dagermans verk är översatta till franska och pjäser spelas fortfarande. Han har jämförts med Albert Camus och kallas ibland för Nordens Rimbaud. Varför tilltalas fransmännen så av hans verk?2023 skulle Dagerman ha fyllt 100 år och flera av hans texter är lika aktuella idag som under hans verksamma år. Boken har tillkommit via Region Uppsalas treåriga satsning Växelspel som får stöd från Kulturrådet. Syftet med projektet är att stödja litteraturen som konstform och i centrum står Stig Dagermans författarskap.
