FEED YOUR SOUL WITH ASMA KHAN'S COLLECTION OF AUTHENTIC INDIAN RECIPES ASMA KHAN STARS IN NETFLIX'S AWARD-WINNING SERIES CHEF'S TABLE Award-winning restaurant Darjeeling Express began life as a dinner party with friends; Indian food lovingly cooked from family recipes that go back generations. In this book, Asma reveals the secret to her success, telling her immigrant's story and how food brought her home. The recipes pay homage to her royal Mughlai ancestry and follow the route of the Darjeeling Express train from the busy streets of Bengal, through Calcutta, where she grew up, and along the foothills of the Himalayas to Hyderabad. Platters of dishes boasting texture and intense flavor encourage you to gather for a traditional dawaat (feast). Starting with simple midweek Feasts for Two, Asma then reveals the way to quick and easy cooking with less spice for Family Feasts. There are Feasts for Friends, for when you want to show off a little, and Celebratory Feasts. Many of the recipes are vegetarian, there are sweet treats and drinks, too, and all feature alongside lesser-known recipes and stories unique to Asma's family. This is more than just a collection of delicious and accessible recipes, it is a celebration of heritage, culture, community and quality. This is Asma's Indian Kitchen.

This love letter to London's most cherished shops celebrates the city's past and present, as well as its diversity and vivaciousness. Illustrator Joel Holland created his first book, NYC Storefronts, because he was missing all the places he couldn't visit in his own hometown during Covid lockdown. Now he's set his sights on London-a city that feels at once ancient and modern, traditional and quirky, homey and hip. Made with the same energy as NYC Storefronts, this book has a distinctly English vibe. It divides the city into five navigable sections (Central, North, East, South, and West), and highlights its diverse mix of cultures. In each chapter is a sprawling selection of shops, brought to life by Holland's charming drawings and London-based journalist Rosie Hewitson's captivating descriptions. This collection of more than two hundred shopfronts runs the gamut of old to modern-day London: stately bookshops, umbrella stores, tailors, hatters, and pubs, but also trendy restaurants, bars, and boutiques. A number of places are deeply profiled, including storied jazz club Ronnie Scott's; Hatchards, the UK's oldest- surviving bookshop; Caribbean record store People's Sound; Rowan's Tenpin Bowling Alley; beloved Turkish restaurant Mangal II; and gender-affirming hairdressers Open Barbers; each one is lovingly detailed in Holland's gentle tones. An informative guide to discovering all the Big Smoke has to offer, this is also a lasting keepsake for London lovers of every age and style.

How do we learn to be religious? To make sense of this process should we emphasise the habitual reinforcement of bodily rituals? Or the active role of individuals in making decisions about faith at key moments? Or should we turn to cognitive science to explain the universal structures on which religiosity is built? And how does a relatively devout minority pass on religion in a generally secular Western context? What significance does religion have for family life in this situation? And how does a religious identity interact with other kinds of collective identification, for example with a nation, ethnic group or a locality? These are some of the questions that Muslim Childhood deals with. This book is about ordinary British Muslims' everyday religious socialisation of children in early and middle childhood. It provides a detailed description of how Muslim families in a secular Western context attempt to pass on their faith to the next generation. It is rooted in detailed qualitative research with 60 Muslim families in one British city. The authors' own analysis of survey data suggests that Muslims in the UK more effectively pass on their faith to the next generation than other religious groups. This book is in part an attempt to explain why that might be.
