Hope for Mandy is a story about an older female German Shepherd who has been living all her life with an elderly lady. The story begins by telling how Mandy protected her owner from a purse thief. When Mandy's owner suddenly dies, life changes dramatically because she is taken away to live with other dogs at a dog rescue shelter. In the rescue shelter, Mandy learns how all the dogs have their own personalities, hopes, and wishes. The dogs discuss among themselves what is important in life to them and to humans: love, hope, rejection, wishes, and more. After succumbing to despair after being rejected by potential new owners, Mandy finds a new attitude and hope. Ultimately, she does get rescued by a new owner who happens to be an elderly lady whose dog had just died. Mandy finally finds happiness in her new home. The book includes Teacher's Guide in the back so that the book could be used for classroom discussions. In addition, the book could be used for learning how to read and for enjoyable bedtime reading that would allow parents the opportunity to discuss the important topics and feelings with their children.
