A supposedly uncrackable safe gets burgarlized. Valuable jewelry is stolen, along with a scrapbook that contains an old man's memories of being held as a boy in a Japanese-American internment camp during WWII. The four teenage members of the band The People Movers investigate the case.

Three bandmates are searching for a new drummer in their hometown just outside of Detroit. A few streets over, talented drummer Yusuf and his family are Syrian refugees, searching for a new life, and new opportunities. It's a perfect match, except that racial and religious tensions are at an all-time high, and there are some who would come between the new family and their chances at success.

The People Movers (Carlos, Kenji, X, and Yusuf) join forces once again. This time they need to help Jorge, an immigrant refugee child who has been separated from his parents. They risk everything to reunite Jorge with his parents and get them out of an immigrant detention facility in Texas.
