If you saw Cecelia Davis and Debbie Warren walking down the street together, you might not have any idea that the two women are best friends.That's because their friendship goes deeper than appearances, and that fact has even inspired Davis to write their story, and that's how the book in your hands came to be. Although they became friends as adults, this book shares the story of how things might have been if they had met as children.

Jeffrey Thompson, 47 year-old over-the-road truck driver was trying to get home to spend Labor Day weekend with his wife and stepson. He handed the stationmaster his log which showed he had eight hours rest since his last run. Even though he figured he had rested well enough behind the steering wheel of his 18-wheeler, he convinced himself to find a motel in the next town and get some sleep. He rubbed his eyes. Just five more miles. He doesn't realize he is about to be thrown into his part of Heaven's Mission.On the main street of town, people screamed and ran into buildings. A red Mazda swerved, trying to get out of the path of an 18-wheeler. The loud groan and crunching of metal and glass was the last sound she heard. Then everything went black.

BOOK TWO: Trial by Fire In the sequel, Trial by Fire, additional missions from heaven are offered as Johnny and Jeremy grow up and have families of their own. Will they be accepted and completed? In one episode, Jeremy has become an investigator for nursing homes in the state of Kansas. He and his family go to Colorado to visit with Johnny and his family. Carl Benson is also visiting. Jeremy thinks this is a perfect time to ask the retired undercover police officer for a favor. He wants Carl to go undercover to a particular nursing home that is under investigation. An argument erupts and Carl walks out. After praying about it, Carl agrees to go undercover as Jeremy's father-in-law. This is all a part of Heaven's Mission for Carl and Jeremy. However, after Carl has a stroke and his arm is broken due to negligence, Jeremy doesn't want Carl to go back to the nursing home. Carl has been told that if he does not go back, their part in Heaven's Mission will have failed. Jeremy has previously made the statement that people fail the Lord all the time, but to see Heaven's Mission fail in your own life is almost more than one can bear. After thinking about it, Jeremy has to make a decision. Does he take Carl back and risk further injury to him or does he play it safe and keep him where he can care for him? Johnny's young daughter, Jenny turns on the tv to watch cartoons. An announcement comes on about a fire engulfing a nursing home brings Johnny and his wife into the living room instead. When the name of the nursing home comes into view, Johnny calls his brother. Moments later, Johnny and his family watch in horror as Jeremy goes into the burning building but doesn't come out before the building collapses. He soon realizes he will need to go and make arrangements for his brother's body.

In the third and final book, From Tragedy to Triumph, the characters reunite one last time. Joy is mixed with sadness when a camp for handicapped children is begun and near tragedy happens; a little boy dies; a birthday gift turns into a lethal weapon. When Carl Benson's picture is taken and submitted to the newspaper as a surprise, the former undercover officer leaves town He loves his friends too much to put them in the danger he knows awaits him However, an old enemy comes to Bethel looking for Carl. Johnny realizes, too late, the danger his family is in and his daughter, Jenny, is caught in the middle. Finally, God speaks to His servant one last time and the highest praise a mortal could receive is offered.
