Numerische Methoden zur Berechnung elektromagnetischer Felder wurden zum Teil schon vor einigen Jahren entworfen und stetig ausgebaut. Mit der par- allel dazu laufenden Entwicklung von Rechenanlagen ist ein starker Trend zu benutzerfreundlichen Programmen festzustellen. Versuchsaufbauten werden zunehmend durch CAD (Computer Aided Design) und CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) abgelost. Selbstverstandlich wird beim Verkauf derartiger Anlagen und der zugehorigen Software gerne zu viel versprochen. Tatsachlich ist der An- wendungsbereich aller Programme sowohl durch deren 'Ideologie' als auch durch den Rechner, auf dem sie implementiert wurden, sehr stark eingeschrankt. Der Anwender ist deshalb zunachst vor die schwierige Aufgabe gestellt, ein fur seine Zwecke geeignetes Programm zu finden und sieht sich schlief31ich oft enttauscht, weil aile angebotenen Programme 'sein Problem' nicht - oder nur nach einer mehr oder weniger aufwendigen Modifikation - losen konnen. Sowohl die Evaluation als auch die Modifikation bestehender Programme uberfordern den Anwender in vielen Fallen, da seine Kenntnisse der Elektrodynamik und der Numerik zu ge- ring sind. Sucht man nach passender Literatur, so stellt man fest, daB bereits sehr viele Bucher uber theoretische Elektrotechnik und uber numerische Metho- den existieren. Die ersteren beschranken sich meist auf die analytische Losung von Problemen mit einfacher Geometrie, die letzteren sind nur selten fur Elek- troingenieure verstandlich geschrieben und beschranken sich oft auf eine einzige Methode zur numerischen Feldberechnung.
