This textbook contains sections on how to choose a topic and design the project, how to write a critical literature review, concepts, conceptual frameworks and theories, collecting and analysing research material, interpreting the research material and, finally, framing arguments and writing the dissertation.
Resource Allocation in the Public Sector
In the public sector at the moment resources are scarce - or at the very least finite and limited - how they are allocated is therefore of crucial importance. This book analyses this process and examines the competing values that underlie the public service ethic, including the role of markets and quasi-markets, in the delivery of public services. Topics discussed include: * whether people should be denied the public services they need because public bodies are short of money * what balance we should strike between markets and public organisations to provide public services * whether the use of markets has gone too far and whether we need to return to a public service ethic

How may I describe the place in which Gabrielle and myself drew our first breath? It is une merveille, a wonder beyond human comprehension, to which all our muses, should they prove themselves to be worthy of the name, are invited, so that they may ponder the miracle of which they are part. I have stood beneath the Great Dome, every inch of which is covered by a tumult of celestial beings caparisoned in rich golds and purples and blues, and known that were they living gods every figure would testify to the masterwork that is La Ronde. It is, of course, from this great room and its singular work, that we are named. The room is a vast organism (yes, truly, for such a masterpiece of colour and light and movement can only be understood in the context of a living thing), a circle as its name implies, and it is the greatest work of artistic genius that exists in the world, or has ever existed, beyond Donatello, Michelangelo, beyond all the nameless prodigies of vanished centuries. Even Pheidias, although it is said of him that when Vesnia Losnai (one of our earliest foremothers, and a peerless worker of bronze and terracotta) visited his studio at Olympia, she was so moved by his metalwork that she declared him worthy of his own place in La Ronde. Indeed, she commissioned from him the twin statues of chryselephantine that now stand inside the leaving doors.

There are few rivalries bitterer than that of siblings, and few more ferocious than that of art. S bastien and Gabrielle Laronde are the most exquisite expression of fin de si cle Avignon. Artists without compare, they exist in eternal competition vying for the supreme accolade - not the acclaim of their peers, but to be found worthy of their family and its mysterious legacy. In prose as sumptuous and rich as any of the Laronde sculptures and paintings, the twins' simmering resentments weave a sensuous spell about the Vaucluse artworld. Drawn into their orbit, a new muse brings S bastien the promise of perfection; his prize lies within the shining stone, but whose craft can be its equal?
