In this easily readable book Dr David Petts shows clearly why we should expect miracles of healing today. He looks at most of the healing miracles in the Bible and draws important lessons from them. He offers a balanced theology of healing that seeks to promote faith for healing without causing discouragement to those who are not healed. Using illustrations from his own experience he gives wise advice on how healing should be practised both in evangelism and in pastoral ministry today.

The conversion to Christianity was a key cultural process that saw the transformation of Europe from classical to medieval world. The growth of the Church has been closely linked with the development of other key institutions, such as the state. It has also been highlighted as a factor in changing attitudes to issues such as the body, time and landscapes. While the study of conversion in the early medieval world has increasingly become a focus for both historians and archaeologists, there has been a lack of engagement with the methodological and theoretical problems underpinning any attempt to explore the archaeology of belief. This book, illustrated with case studies and examples drawn from a range of sources, including the 'Celtic' west, Anglo-Saxon England, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, tackles some of these important issues. In particular it explores two under-theorised aspects of conversion: the relationship between archaeology and belief, and an attempt to re-centre the 'pagan' as a key element in the conversion process.

The extent to which Christianity affected the society and politics of Roman Britain is subject to debate. This well-illustrated study avoids literary evidence, which is often more open to interpretation, to focus on archaeological remains. Petts examines the distribution of early churches, particularly the impact of religious buildings on the rural landscape, and identifies possible fonts and stone cisterns, evidence for the earliest conversions.
The Early Medieval Church in Wales

The Early Medieval Church in Wales

Christianity arrived in Wales with the Romans and spread rapidly in the early medieval period. Evidence for its success survives in the form of early stone sculpture and inscriptions, reliquaries and other holy objects and frequent references in historical documents. However, there are also many myths and misconceptions about Christianity in this period, often created in the medieval records of early saints, but perpetuated by later writers. This book explores the archaeology of the early Church in Wales from the arrival of Christianity in the Roman period until the end of the independent Welsh kingdoms in the late thirteenth century. It attempts to disentangle fact from fiction and develop a clearer understanding of the early Welsh Church. It looks at all aspects of religious life in this period from death and burial to the construction of churches and the writing and decoration of manuscripts. Using this information, combined with the historical evidence, the author presents an authoritative overview of the growth and spread of Christianity in Wales. He shows that although the early Welsh Church had some distinctive elements, it was not isolated or out-of-touch but closely linked with the growth of early Christendom elsewhere in the British Isles and mainland Europe.

If you've just become a Christian, or even if you've been a Christian for some time, and you want to know more about the power of the Holy Spirit, then this book has been written for you. Purposely written it in clear, almost chatty, English, so that it will be easy for even a young Christian to read and understand. It's meant to be a simple guide to what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit, an Introduction
In this easily readable book Dr David Petts answers questions like: Who is the Holy Spirit? Should we worship the Holy Spirit? What is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? What role does the Spirit play in the work of conversion? Can the Holy Spirit help me live a holy life? What is the Baptism in the Holy Spirit? How can I receive and maintain the fulness of the Spirit? What are the gifts of the Spirit and how can I receive them? What's the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the church? Written from a distinctly charismatic perspective this book will both inform you and inspire you. The author's balanced approach, with his insistence that our experience of the Spirit must be understood and evaluated in the light of biblical revelation, gives the reader confidence that the writer is familiar with the Holy Spirit's work not only from his study of the Word of God but also from personal experience.

Signs from Heaven is the story of one man's experience of the miracle-working power of God. Miracles are events that defy natural explanation. They are signs - signs of God's existence, His power, and His love. Like the miracles that happened in the Bible, miracles today confirm the truth of the Christian message. The miracles recorded in this book will inspire Christians in their faith and encourage those who are not yet Christians to put their trust in Jesus Christ, who still works miracles today.

It's often said that it's good that there are many different styles of Christian worship because what suits one person may not suit another. But this places the emphasis on the preferences of the worshipper and ignores the possible preferences of the One who is being worshipped. So the question arises, Does God have anything to say about how he wants to be worshipped? This book is written from the understanding that God's will is revealed in his word, the Bible. It's based on the assumption that in the Bible God has something to say about how he should be worshipped, and the kind of things that should happen when Christians gather to do so. Dr David Petts says that the key to this is found in 1 Corinthians 14:26. A biblical believers' meeting will contain not only music and teaching, but also manifestations of the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit. He shows how Paul's teaching in Chapters 12-14 illustrates this and challenges church leaders to reevaluate the way their services are organised. Key principles to consider are variety, opportunity for everyone to participate, and the need for love which is expressed in seeking the edification of others. In this connection, detailed attention is given to Paul's teaching in Chapter 14 on the use of the gifts of tongues, interpretation, and prophecy, and how this teaching might be applied in churches today.
