The Trinity? That must be a totally out-of-date idea! By no means—it can be understood in terms of twenty-first century ideas.The doctrine of the Trinity is currently experiencing a revival in interest after a long period of neglect. However, there have been few attempts to present the doctrine in a way that will communicate to twenty-first century people. Many features of modern life are just those that relate to the issues that the Trinity deals with. The impact of modern science on faith, the search for sexual equality, the impersonality of modern life, are some of the issues that the doctrine relates to. A new formulation of the Trinity is presented, but not contrary to ancient formulations. Provocative? Hopefully, but from a desire to see the Trinity at the heart of Christian belief and practice.
