Glacier National Park is among those places in the world with take-your-breath-away scenery. Unique in its combination of rugged mountains, glaciers, wide valleys, forests, rivers, waterfalls, and lakes, it is rich in natural beauty. However, these same features tell stories of the distant past that led to the national park that we know today. The rocks themselves tell the more than a billion-year history that shaped the area. Within the rocks are clues to ancient wildlife and ecosystems very different from those we experience in the area today. The park is also rich with tales of Native Americans who resided in this area long before immigrants of European descent arrived. Following the era of Native American dominance in the area, settlers eventually came in great numbers in pursuit of their fortunes from the natural resources they hoped to exploit. However, it was tourism that brought the greatest number of visitors, and that indirectly led to the preservation and establishment of Glacier National Park. This book is a photojournal of a contemporary journey through Glacier National Park. To gain a deeper appreciation of the different areas of the park, we look into the distant past and tell the stories of the land, the wildlife, and the people.

Many believe that the world is hard to see at night, but in truth the night sky is an open window through which we are able to gaze into the visible Universe with its boundless beauty and alluring mysteries. This book takes us on a journey of the imagination into the night sky and beyond to discover where and when we live in the Cosmos representing all that is, has been, or ever will be. Through this quest, our perspective may be challenged with regard to our home, this fragile speck of cosmic dust trapped in the fabric of spacetime within an incomprehensibly vast Cosmos. On our journey, we also consider the perspectives of science and faith and search for common ground in our ultimate quest to understand why we are here and if there is a greater purpose for our lives. This quest for answers takes us on an adventure into the Cosmos ultimately to discover ourselves. We live in a time in which we are perhaps as divided as a nation, and between nations, as any time in history. As we look back upon our world from this new vantage point gained through our journey, our perspective may be further challenged regarding how we interact with those around us, how we interact within our communities, and how our nation interacts with other nations. For those who would lead others, this challenge of our perspective may be foundational in steering our course into the future. This, includes the course we set for our species that inhabits this fragile comparatively small planet and that will ultimately need to make the leap into the wilderness of interstellar space.Black and white illustrations and images.
