Alexis Spanarkel is living the life of a career woman. She has a well-paying job; she has girlfriends to go clubbing with; and she has a steady boyfriend. Then the FBI pays her a visit and her balanced world becomes a topsy-turvy one in which her dream sleuthing skills will be tested to the max. Her seemingly impossible mission is to dream herself into the prior life of the recently murdered egomaniac, J.R. Lukes, and extract the stopcode and location of a nuclear device. His doomsday clock begins a 96-hour countdown to a nuclear explosion that will destroy mankind - and the Earth. And, at the request of local detectives, solve his murder. She proclaims that she's not Superwoman. Can she succeed in her undertaking? In dreamstate, Alexis must play Lukes' game, an interacting video game called MindBlow, which he designed and became a billionaire. Alexis must defeat a myriad of beasts, including two-headed sand serpents, sand dogs and sky vultures; and an android protector, her clone named Alexis Nine. On her way to the "Our Town" tier of the game, she encounters the khans, Genghis and Kublai, plus a pygmy who says he is God Almighty and that Lukes is a pretender to his throne in Heaven. To save the world, all Alexis must do is to rely on her faith in God and to outwit Lukes.
In Book One, Alexis Ann Spanarkel is on the lam - fleeing vengeful Simon Everjohn followers known as Disrupters. She assumes an alias, Ramona Uva Rodgers, after an extended stay with her handlers in Charlotte, N.C. She begins her odyssey in Little Havana to orient herself with the Hispanic culture she'll encounter. Next comes Havana, Cuba, where she meets a gigolo, Juan; and then La Paz, Bolivia, where she falls in love with Tega, a tattoo artist and political activist. When Tega runs afoul of government officials and must leave Bolivia, Ramona flies to Buenos Aires; and later takes up residence in the seaside town of Pinamar, Argentina, where a twist in fate awaits her.In Book Two, Alexis is back as herself and is drawn into a twofold web of intrigue involving Skylandia, a peaceful haven for dreamers to live out their last days. But there's trouble in Paradise. Disrupters are creating turmoil in an attempt to merge Nightmare Alley, a den of iniquity in Dreamland, with Skyland's Utopian atmosphere. Alexis teams with local detective, Harris Callahan, who also is a dream docent, to resolve Skylandia's woes and to solve the murder of a founding member of Skyland.
A brain anomaly following a six-month coma allows Alexis Spanarkel to experience vivid dreams, including being in others' dreams and nightmares. Now a dream sleuth, Alexis is hired as a consultant on a murder case that evolves into unraveling a ten-year-old missing runaway who escaped a coven's sacrifice. Working with case detectives, Alexis assists in unmasking the mysterious avenger and the meaning of the word, "Rubicon," that was printed in blood on a wall by Victim No. 2.
