I disse digte hører vi om Emilio Alvarez' rejse til hvalfanger-byen Luarca, hvor hans bedste ven skal giftes. Hurtigt får han venner, og lige så hurtigt bliver han uvenner med dem igen og må drage videre til den næste by. Æslet har han sendt hjem til sin mor med postvognen efter en "ulykke" med nogle gærede æbler. Den videre rejse fører ham fra Cabo Busto over Gijón og noget han kalder "søernes land" til Oviedo, hvor han deltager i en litteraturkonkurrence. Bogen er oversat og med forord af Peter Højrup
