Cassy Shaw leaves her Creole cottage on the corner of Burgundy Street on the night of August 27 2005. Hurricane Katrina was heading towards New Orleans. Cassy was going to collect a parcel delivered for her to her husbands bookstore on Royal Street. It was from the plantation belonging to the Le Blanc family she worked for as a seamstress in 1959. While working at their mansion as a seamstress in The Garden District Cassy was raped by her employer and became pregnant. She was told her baby died the night she was born. Cassy kept this a secret throughout her marriage to Louis Le Blanc their eldest son, whom she fell in love with while working at the mansion. She makes her way through the storm where the past is uncovered to reveal the truth of what happened that night in 1960 when she gave birth.
