Translating Trans Identity

Translating Trans Identity

Emily Rose

Routledge

sidottu
This book explores the ways in which translation deals with sexual and textual undecidability, adopting an interdisciplinary approach bridging translation, transgender studies, and queer studies in analyzing the translations of six texts in English, French, and Spanish labelled as ‘trans.’Rose draws on experimental translation methods, such as the use of the palimpsest, and builds on theory from areas such as philosophy, linguistics, queer studies, and transgender studies and the work of such thinkers as Derrida and Deleuze to encourage critical thinking around how all texts and trans texts specifically work to be queer and how queerness in translation might be celebrated. These texts illustrate the ways in which their authors play language games and how these can be translated between languages that use gender in different ways and the subsequent implications for our understanding of the act of translation and how we present our gender identity or identities. In showing what translation and transgender identity can learn from one another, Rose lays the foundation for future directions for research into the translation of trans identity, making this book key reading for scholars in translation studies, transgender studies, and queer studies. For a video recording of the book's BCLT launch, visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-KVzQ8I2PI

When Danny Marshall decided to up and leave everything behind to move to Georgia with her best friend, Reanna, it wasn't because she wanted to attend college, but that was exactly what she found herself doing. But doing anything was better than going back to her hometown of Palm Bay, Florida. Back to the place where everything changed. Where she changed. A broken heart could do a lot of damage. One night stand after one night stand. It was the only way she could keep her already broken heart safe. But when she walked into a bar called Twisted and met Jaxson Steele, with his no bullsh*t attitude and outspoken personality, she was instantly drawn to him. Not to mention he was drop-your-panties gorgeous. Like every man before him, though, she only expected one thing to come out of their quick connection. Sex. That was until she got to know him and realized that maybe...she wasn't the only one with a broken heart. Can Danny and Jaxson heal each other or will their pasts rip them apart before they get the chance?*Warning*This book contains scenes and/or situations that could be triggers for some people. It is dark, twisted, steamy, full of angst, an emotional ride, and has moments that might make you throw your kindle. Due to these elements, it is recommended for ages 18+.
