_______________ ‘This intelligent, incisive account...and her cool analysis of the humanity and hypocrisy at the heart of the Israeli/Palestinian fighting is striking' - The Times ‘A reader only vaguely aware of the reality behind the headlines will find much that is observant and saddening in her vivid portrait of this tribal dispute' - Independent ‘This book must be one of the most honest accounts of those terrible years. It's proportionate, subtle and comprehensive ... biased towards nobody but the voices of moderation and hope' - Guardian _______________ Emma Williams arrived in Jerusalem with her three children in August 2000 to join her husband and to work as a doctor. A month later the second Palestinian Intifada erupted. For the next three years she lived on the border of East and West Jerusalem, working with Palestinians in Ramallah by day and spending evenings with Israelis in Tel Aviv. This deeply affecting memoir is a unique contribution to our understanding of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and a sympathetic yet unsparingly honest account of the humanity and hypocrisy at the heart of it. _______________ ‘I plan on giving this book to people who ask me: "What is going on over there?" Williams answers that question, and so much more' - Janine di Giovanni, Daily Telegraph _______________

CBT for psychosis draws on the principles and interventions developed for anxiety and depression and adapts these to treat psychotic symptoms. CBT for schizophrenia is now widely accepted as an effective treatment in the reduction of psychotic symptoms. A review of findings led the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to recommend offering CBT to all people with schizophrenia. Content includes: the role of stress in psychosis; negative symptoms - emotional, motivational and behavioural deficits; social anxiety disorder; obsessional compulsive disorder; post-traumatic stress disorder; mood disturbance in psychosis; and client handouts. It features: 174 pages, perfect bound (246 x 171mm).
Emma Williams’ important study of rape investigations shows how poor prosecution and conviction rates are related to police culture, organisation and decision making. The book uses interviews with police officers to analyse the working schema and interpretation of different contexts in rape cases, and asks why previous reviews have failed to resolve the attrition problem. Challenging the current ‘what works’ mantra, the book explores how investigating officers really apply their experiential knowledge and what is deemed to be a successful outcome in a rape investigation. Analysing the barriers to change and conclusions for reform, this is a timely analysis that goes to the heart of police professionalism and legitimacy.

After a major invasion of the Gaza Strip in late 2008, twenty-year-old Mahmoud Barghout decided to become a zookeeper. He saw that the children around him were exhausted by war, and so to provide respite, he set up the Happy Land Zoo. But the war made feeding and caring for the animals impossible--they died of thirst, hunger, or injury--and replacing them meant finding large sums of money and overcoming the blockade or the risk of bringing them in through tunnels connecting the Strip to Egypt. So Mr. Barghout came up with a solution for at least one animal: he dyed two local white donkeys with dark stripes, to create zebras, which visiting children could touch and even ride. "The Story of Hurry" recounts the tale of these "made in Gaza" zebras, of an inventive zookeeper just like Mr. Barghout, and of the wondrous capacity of the imagination of children. Written by Emma Williams, together with thought-provoking mixed-media illustrations by Ibrahim Quraishi, this picture book for inquisitive children aged 3 to 103 includes an historical note for parents, teachers, and librarians.
