A poem told in the form of intertwined narratives from each kingdom, "The Saga of Skalheim" evokes a bleak fantasy world reminiscent of Scandinavian sagas and ancient epics: In a land once ruled by the ancient Felrothi, three kingdoms of Skalheim vie for survival and dominance. Mylians migrants built their mighty citadel Mygdol around the ruins of an abandoned Felrothi Tower. The Fror built their fortress Frorguard into the frigid mountains below the Northlands. Groups of exiles arriving from the sea settled in the south and became known as the Fen clans. Years ago, Fen warlords invaded Mygdol, leading them to form an alliance with Frorguard. The two nations defeated the Fen and negotiated a hard-won truce. However, grim fortunes now await these tribes of Skalheim. The pact between the kingdoms of Frorguard and Mygdol is fraying and the resurgent Fen seek to exploit their mutual distrust. Most ominously, each nation has begun to discover the magicks of the extinct Felrothi race.
Brighten Everyone's Day with COFFEE POEMS Short poems for your business coffee club
I have had a love of coffee for years. I have a degree in Pharmacology-Toxicology where I ran the coffee club. Noone else wanted the responsibility to absolutely positively show up every day to make that all important fluid extraction. I learned a lot about keeping consumers happy. One time I used deionized (purified) water for the brew. I received loads of complaints. That coffee wasn't working. I hypothesize it was the lack of minerals in the water that prevented the extraction of the caffeine from the coffee grounds. Tap water worked better but needed to be de-chlorinated to improve the flavor. After graduation and years later I was again in charge of this all important job for my group with Pesticide Enforcement Branch of California Environmental Protection Agency. All went well for years until our group was moved into the main building in downtown Sacramento. I would enter the break room and see a pot half filled with "coffee" sitting on the heat being ruined. This is where I again took over coffee production.

A black hole is a region of space-time exhibiting such strong gravitational effects that nothing-not even particles and electromagnetic radiation such as light-can escape from inside it. In Black Hole Factory, poet Eric Smith writes his way into and out of such holes with a commitment to the history and craftsmanship of the well-shaped poem. He compresses experience, intellect, and feeling within concentrated stanzas of compelling density, but his use of tradition, rhyme, and meter also become sources of surprise and innovation in his hands. The book has poems that communicate impressive control, intellect, and wit-poems that cultivate ironic self-awareness and detachment on the part of both poet and reader. And then there are breakthrough moments giving up both irony and control in which poet and reader experience a kind of gravitational collapse powerful enough to deform and reshape space-time. In the end, he has shaped a profound and accomplished manuscript of deep personal engagement graced by moving, open flights of lyricism.
