Eva Voytek Pfaufeder was born in 1923, in Vienna, and this novella, written in her nineties, has emerged out of eight decades of an extraordinary life. Influenced by, among other things, Voltaire's 'Candide', the writing has a distinctive style and refuses to conform to any particular genre.
