In this account of his childhood, and his escape into a different life at the age of fourteen, the author takes us back to a world, where the demands of survival were more urgent and the rat-race to secure food more frantic.

Gordon Bunce's first book, Lucas in Birmingham, was a social history of one of Birmingham's largest employers until its closure in 1989.
