The Spiritual Leadership of a Parish Priest: On Being Good and Good At It
One of the most critical Issues facing American Catholicism is the quality of Its priestly leadership. There are many how-to resources on pastoral techniques, but very few on spiritual leadership. The author defines spiritual leadership as the ability to influence people internally to move from where they are to where God wants them to be and pastoral leadership as the ability to skillfully use the rites, rules and rituals of the Church to make that happen. Seminaries spend a lion share of their time emphasizing personal piety, but priests today must not only be good personally, they must be good at what they do.

This book may be the first serious collection of resources to help bishops and priest councils build the unity of their presbyterates so they can offer more effective and coherent ministry to the People of God. It has overviews of the theology of presbyterates and offers many practical suggestions for strengthening the communitarian dimension of ordained ministry. Besides essays written by the editor, it also contains essays written by bishops and other priests.

One Heart at a Time: Renewing the Church in the New Millennium
This collection of homilies answers the question that so many people asked me after reading my first book] An Encouraging Word: "Where does one go after one grasps the fact that God loves us without condition?" The answer is simply this: after conversion comes transformation. In the first book, I spoke of "conversion" as waking up to the fact that we are loved by God, without condition. In this second book, I speak of "transformation" as that gradual change which is possible within us once we have been awakened to and cooperate with God's unconditional love
Affirming Goodness: A Collection of Memorable Articles & Inspirational Quotes from Eleven Years of An Encouraging Word
This book is a collection of the most memorable and universally themed articles from Father Knott's weekly column, An Encouraging Word, which began appearing in his diocesan newspaper, The Record, in 2002. His goal was to be a voice of God's affirmation and encouragement for ordinary people going about their daily lives. This is a book of "spiritual reading" that deals with such topics as hope, courage, forgiveness, gratitude, holiness, fear, trust and more. There are nearly 80 articles gathered in this book which also includes a collection of nearly 200 thought-provoking quotes Father Knott cited throughout his articles over the past eleven years."Your articles in The Record are conversation pieces among friends at many dinner tables. You give us hope for the future."- B.T. "I want to say 'thank you.' Your columns continue to be inspiring, thought provoking and applicable to everyday living." - J.L.

This workbook, a companion to Intentional Presbyterates, is meant to offer structures and resources to dioceses and priests who are ready to say "no" to the "priests in private practice" model of the past and the growing "tribalism" model of today. This workbook is meant to help presbyterates enunciate a shared vision, without which small groups of like-minded, warring priests will continue to be left to slug it out over who has the right vision. No two dioceses are alike. The ideas and resources for presbyetral gatherings contained within this workbook are meant to be adapted and built upon whenever possible and wherever needed.

This book is a contemporary distillation of St. Bonaventure's timeless 13th century work, The Six Wings of the Seraph, in which he describes six qualities that should guide men charged with governing a Christian community. His words are amazingly appropriate even in the 21st century. Priests, especially pastors, are called to be teachers of the Word, ministers of the sacraments and leaders of the community. This short book (30 pages), addresses the character of the pastor himself and how it affects his leadership role within the community.

The one thing that all successful pastoral leaders have in common is their drive for improvement -both in who one is and what one does - a fierce commitment to their own lifelong formation and an unflinching quest for personal excellence. This workbook is used in ongoing formation programs at the Institute for Priests and Presbyerates at St. Meinrad School of Theology. It provides a framework for priests to examine their lives, both ministerial and personal, and set goals for growth. In this handbook, many different areas of focus and growth are recommended. It is your job, through prayerful discernment, to put in place a manageable plan that has realistic goals and healthy benchmarks for evaluation. You will be amazed at how such a simple tool in your life can lead to radical transformation.
While Keeping My Distance: Random Reflections During a Pandemic
This is a series of periodic reflections published on my blog (www.FatherKnott.com) during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. Since there was absolutely nothing I could do about the pandemic itself, I decided to use my time to focus on doing well the "ordinary things" that many people do on a regular basis without much thought and then write about them. In the words of Flannery O'Connor, "I write because I don't know what I think until I read what I say. " By becoming personally more intentional about doing those "ordinary things" with care and focused attention and writing about them, my hope is to inspire others to maybe do the same even after the pandemic passes.
