The world of poetry can be quite pretentious. Many times, we will read prose from writers who would like us to believe they are not flawed. They talk to us about subjects as if they've mastered them all. Often, it actually seems some poets condescendingly "talk at" their audience instead of "talking to" us. "The Book of Jacob" does not fit that mold. This collection is a journey similar to what many of us have experienced in our lives. Sadness is in an emotionally epic game of tug of war with happiness. Just when we think we've found love, we discover we've found heartache. When we reach points of being ready to give up, a higher power tells us why we shouldn't. We are all perfectly imperfect and accepting that is what "The Book of Jacob" is all about.

We turn our disagreements into grudges against each other almost every day. We spend time, money, and energy seeking some type of revenge against those who have harmed us. We may enjoy brief moments when we get back at people, but in the end, we always find out "Petty Doesn't Pay."

Have you ever found yourself spreading rumors about someone else? If we're honest, we have all probably done it at some point or another, but that doesn't make it right. The words we speak, whether they're good or bad, have power. What we choose to do what that power is up to us. "I'm Not One to Gossip, So You Didn't Hear That From Me" shows that if you choose to put negativity into the atmosphere, you have to be prepared for when that energy comes back at you.

Our minds have become cluttered with conflicting thoughts of optimism and pessimism, love and hatred, peace and discomfort. With these internal battles come questions of who we are and why we're here. Our emotions tend to control how we react to various circumstances, so it's no wonder we have difficulty controlling them.This collection of poetry is a journey inside of the sometimes chaotic chambers of my thoughts. These thoughts are meant to serve as starting points for the external conversations we don't always know how to dive into. The poems also allow every reader to know they are not alone in their feelings, no matter what they are.We are imperfect beings, but for some reason, we like to pretend we all have it together. This collection of poetry is me embracing my imperfections in an effort to improve. The things I can never seem to vocalize have been written so that I will be able to recall my past, enjoy my present, and try my best to prepare for my future.

The beans grow into a gigantic beanstalk that touches the sky. When Jake climbs it, he has a meeting with a giant who teaches him a lesson he'll never forget.

'With Dad' is the story of how a young boy named Gregory connected with his father through dominoes and fishing trips. With every game they played and every trip they took, the father and son duo created many great memories that will be shared for generations.
