Sequel to "Flowers in the Promised Land", flamboyant runaway Sadie Walker, accompanied by her father (formerly known as her Master, ) returns to Charleston, awkwardly stepping into her new role as a Walker princess, as opposed to her former station in life as a house servant. A bit perplexed by Hiram's admission of Sadie being his daughter, his peers are now in a state of unease (not to mention downright contempt) over this puzzling new development in the Walker household. Coupled with Hiram's rejection of the Confederacy, confessing his undying support for the President, a newly formed collective of Dorchester County plantation owners (known as the Council) uncover a hundred-year-old secret concerning Walker Oaks that could cause Hiram's beloved home to be confiscated and sold at auction. Can Hiram save his cherished boyhood home, or will the glorious Walker Oaks be turned into South Carolina's new Confederate headquarters?
