18th Century Confederate Southern Cooking
The contents of "18th Century American Southern Cooking" are recipes collected from various sources and friends who are known to have ancestral roots in the deep southern states of the United States. People who can often trace their ancestral lineage back to days and members of Confederate families who defended the south against northern aggression by invading northern armies. Cooks world wide have adopted many of those recipes, added and taken away from them, renamed them and claimed them as their own. These recipes, however, are the originals as were handed down from family to family throughout the south, generation after generation; without any such changes. These are the foods my grandmother was raised on, then my mother and father and lastly, I was raised on.

This manuscript has been compiled for one purpose only; to honor those brave and loyal African~American individuals who in reality did in fact fight and sometimes die for the land they loved and people they regarded as their friends and family; the American south and its people. Many historians have chosen to ignore those individuals and have tried to write them out of the history books, to deny them their heritage and to convince the world they never existed. The problem with their misinformation, however, is that United States Federal documents do in fact acknowledge their existence, their service to the southern states, their Confederate Regiments and their membership and participation in numerous Confederate Reunions after the war ended.
Soldiers Stories of the American Civil War
There were many amusing incidents that occurred involving soldiers during the American Civil War; many of which never came to light or was ever written about. These short stories and anecdotes are some of the amusing, interesting and heart rendering incidents that soldiers revealed to their friends after they returned home after the war. In reading these, you will experience the personal touch and see how the war really affected many of the soldiers on the battlefield, on both sides; many of whom were not always enemies, yet they sought to kill the one another due to orders and corrupt politicians. It shows the human side of the soldier, rather than the military side that we were taught to accept.
Australasian Confederates of the American Civil War
The 'Australasian Confederates' is a compilation of all the presently known and confirmed American Civil War Confederate veterans that were either born in, were from or are buried in Australia and New Zealand; those individuals that elected to serve in either the Confederate States of America's Army or Naval forces, or in other positions beneficial to the Confederate States of America. Some of those born in or from Australia and New Zealand never returned to their home countries and were buried elsewhere; some in the Southern states of the United States.
Confederate Generals of the War of Northern Aggression
This pictorial directory of "Confederate Generals of the War of Northern Aggression" has been made available by the William Kenyon Australasian Confederates, Camp 2160, of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Inc; located in Australia. It is an ongoing project to compile a complete pictorial directory of all Confederate Generals who participated in that unholy war; many who have long been forgotten. It is our hope that through this project all the South's Confederate Generals will again be remembered; not just the few along with General Robert E. Lee. All deserve to be remembered for the sacrifice they made in defending the south from Lincoln's illegal war.
Memoirs of Juan Gomez, Florida's Last Known Pirate
This book is a copy of a transcript of a personal conversation as told verbatim by Juan Gomez to Mr. Oliver H. Parker, and written down by Mr. John D. King; who accompanied him to the home of Juan Gomez for an exclusive sit down interview before his death. During Mr. Parker's many visits with Juan, Juan described his life as a pirate and provided Mr. Parker with many drawings to locations he describes as 'treasure locations', where he personally knew certain treasures were buried by pirates with whom he served. This material has never before been made available to the general public, but was passed on by Mr. Fred de La Morton, a renowned historical researcher and friend of Mr. Oliver and Mr. Parker, to James M. Gray; Director of the Florida Historical Research Foundation, to preserve its authenticity, the material content has not been retyped or changed; only the pages were cleaned up, and left exactly as Mr. King wrote it down.

Metal Detecting Seminole Indian War Sites
Seminole Indian War Sites were manned by both military and civilians during the three Seminole Indian Wars in the early 1800's and some were later used as camp and fortification sites during the War Between the States; by both Confederate and Union soldiers and are a part of that period of history with many now protected and preserved by civilian and state authorities as well. I was with such sites that James Gray began his years of research in Florida, not only locating many unknown sites, but also documenting and recording many of them with the office of the Division of Archives and History in the State of Florida. Being recognized by Florida state officials allowed the Florida Historical Research Foundation to approach private property owners about suspected fortification sites that might lie on their land. As a result many lost sites were rediscovered, completely mapped and state authorized records filed revealing their location and existence; preserving some for future state parks.

Fort Harllee was established and constructed at latitude 79 deg. 50 min., longitude 81 deg. 40 min., on March 18, 1835 under the direction of Major William W. Harl1ee of the South Carolina Volunteers, serving in Florida. He had visited the site the previous year and had erected picket walls with two substantial blockhouses, one on each diagonal comer. When it was built it was therefore named in his honor. He also served as its first commander. Fort Harllee was built primarily for the protection of early settlers in the area from marauding Seminoles and situated between Garey's Ferry at Middleburg and Newnansville, which would later become Alachua's first county seat. It was located on the north bank of the Santa Fe River at a point where the Black Creek to Newnansville Road crossed the river; just south of Hampton's Lake. When an alarm was given of impending Indian attack, settlers would all gather in and around the fort for protection.

Florida's Lost Archaic Indian Mounds
Indian artifact collecting is a hobby enjoyed by thousands of people and it goes a long way in helping to preserve artifacts from history that might never be found otherwise. It is illegal to dig for artifacts without a landowner's permission, or on state-owned and controlled lands or submerged lands. The Florida Division of Historical Resources, Bureau of Archaeological Research does have the ability to grant permission to conduct archaeological investigations: but it is seldom done except for professionals. To obtain an archaeological research permit, you or someone in your organization must have professional archaeological expertise that meets the "Qualifications for Recognition as a Professional Archaeologist' of the Register of Professional Archaeologists. In spite of all this, you can use the accompanying copies of a Florida Site File form and use it to your advantage; even if only providing a history of and improving the value of a collection.

The St Helena Penal Establishment was situated on a small Island in Moreton Bay, some 5 km from the mouth of the Brisbane River, covered approximately 88 hectares above the high water line and was one of the loveliest islands in the bay. The elevated tableland on which the prison was built looked like a large rugged block of ruby and emerald rising out of the sea. Its steep chocolate brown patches of rich soil, bordered with green fields of cultivation and bases of grass and shimmering sand provided a striking first picture of the island. It has had a fascinating history from the time it was first discovered; but its most important period began when it became a high-security colonial prison in 1867. The overcrowding of Brisbane's gaols resulted in the conversion of buildings originally intended for a quarantine station on St. Helena Island, into accommodations for prisoners convicted for a wide variety of crimes.

James M. Gray (1851-1935) was an American Bible scholar, school administrator, editor, preacher, and poet. Born in New York City and reared in the Episcopalian Church, as a young man he prayed, "God be manifest to me a sinner." Known as a gracious and well-beloved Christian gentleman and scholar, Dr. Gray dedicated his entire life to communicating the Bible through speaking and writing. For 16 years he pastored the Reformed Episcopal Church in Boston. Dr. Gray championed the cause of Christ at Moody Bible Institute for 43 years as a guest lecturer, dean, president (succeeding D.L. Moody and R.A. Torrey), and editor of Moody Monthly. He authored 25 books and his expositions of the Word blessed nearly 20,000 students. Amazingly, however, Mr. Gray made this confession about his early years as a pastor: "For the first 8 or 10 years of my ministry, I did not know my English Bible as I should have known it, a fact to which my own spiritual life and the character of my pulpit ministrations bore depressing witness." How did he overcome this problem? Thanks to a providential encounter with a layman, he learned a new way to read the Bible that revolutionized his approach to Bible study. In How to Master the English Bible, Mr. Gray reveals this simple method. By reading this book, you will discover why he later proclaimed, "To think that an ordained minister must sit at the feet of a layman to learn the most important secret of his trade " Edited by bestselling author Wayne Davies of www.GodWroteTheBook.com.
