For many years, I worked across the street from the World Trade Center. I loved my community in Lower Manhattan. In one day, all of that changed. The events of September 11, 2001 destroyed our community. Many people lost everything, including their loved ones. In many ways I was spared from the worst of this experience. But I was never the same after that day. My life began to unravel because of unhealed trauma. I was shut down for many years. On the 10th anniversary of the tragedy, I finally sought God for healing. I went to an inner healing ministry session, finally ready to allow God to have access to those dark corners of my heart. The healing I received, by allowing Christ into those shut-down places, was nothing short of amazing. From that moment on, I experienced His peace in my heart, where before I had known only a debilitating trauma. I could finally live again. This book is my personal story and testimony of how the trauma built up in my heart, and how the presence of Christ brought healing. This story covers how the events of 9/11 affected me in many ways, what the healing process was like when I finally decided to go through with it (it wasn't the terrifying process I thought it would be, and God amazed me with how He brought His healing to my heart), along with a basic understanding of how trauma can affect us and how God heals trauma. It breaks my heart to see so much trauma all around us. Painful things happen all the time, and there's nothing we can do to make that stop. But Christ offers peace and comfort in the midst of pain. There is no reason to be weighed down by unhealed trauma. If you have been affected by trauma in any way, I hope this book will bring encouragement of the peace and hope Christ offers. God heals trauma. If you feel trauma in your life, I encourage you to ask Him for help. It is amazing what He will do in response to that prayer. This book shows how He responded when I finally cried out for His help.
