We can't do that if we're overwhelmed and trapped in the trenches. By looking deeper - at the part level - we can better determine what's working well, what needs repair or what needs replacement. Similar to golf players who sometimes take a second shot when their first shot was poorly played, we should focus on the parts that need repair, make the proper adjustments and replay until we get it right. I've been a polyglot for many years, and I've only met a handful of people ever that can do what I do. However, I've met hundreds and hundreds of people who have taken foreign language classes and/or have bought language courses that have never truly learned a foreign language.
