Ayda Rogers can't believe her luck. She's been invited to Am Binnean for the summer, a Scottish castle owned by the Dukes of Cairnmuir to research their art collection for her Doctoral thesis. When she gets there she finds 800 years of history to contend with, the past is always present. Tales of previous castle owners meld within the modern story as she learns all she needs for her paper. And sometimes its not the past but the present which makes her change your whole way of thinking, especially when it comes in the form of the future Duke named Hunter.
Gold Springs, Montana was recently rocked by the murder of Cole Dennison, owner of Western Mining, the main town employer. Mr. Dennison was found in his house with his throat cut. The first suspect should have been his recently estranged fianc e, however her incarceration in jail for breaking his jaw rather clears her name. Sasha Stanton, owner of the Wolf Mountain Horse Company, was released for lack of case with the victim of her anger dead. More shocking to find though is that the mine Mr. Dennison owned is out of gold. Miss Stanton who until her father died had been away from town is the sole beneficiary of the will, a complete fluke since Cole had no chance to change it before his death. Gold Springs being a company town is now owned by Miss Stanton. In that one fact the town might have a chance at not imploding. Local Lawyer Ethane Brandt has been helping with Miss Stanton's investigation into the mine's irregularities since the police have been arresting her employees and friends for the crime. Sheriff Harland Lang would be wise to not antagonize her. It could only end badly if the State Police are called in. Corruption rumors have been circulating for some time.
65 years after the events that transpired in Arkalon, Kansas, Leonie Stanton brings her grandson back to the place she met his grandfather, now a ghost town. The story is not one he expected to hear or she ever wanted to tell. Long dead secrets deserve to stay buried with the bodies.January,1889 Planning to retire from working on her back, Lila Byrne arrives to take up at a quiet house where she can decide what to do after the gold fields of Colorado made her a fortune. What she finds in the walls of the Cimarron Social Club is dire, and not for the lack of customers. All that is a trivial concern when they wake up trapped in a prairie storm to a find a dead woman encased in the ice outside and it's not likely an accident. When Lila finds that wasn't the only woman to die who came to the house and even a stranger comments Lila could be sisters with the dead, trying to stay alive long enough to escape the ice is the only concern.
Mueller's research also reveals that it's not just CEOs but educators, parents, and other social trendsetters who struggle to accept new and creative ideas. Mueller parses the tough questions that these findings raise. Could people have an inherent prejudice against creative ideas? Could the mindset we use to evaluate ideas turn this prejudice on or off? Mueller describes how to shift your mindset to better recognise creative opportunity, and she provides counter intuitive recommendations to help people embrace the creative ideas they want.
Breaking news The FBI has arrived in Gold Springs. It seems that an embezzler has fled to the Wolf Mountain Horse Company's new hunting camps in an effort to flee the country. Sasha Stanton has returned from her travels and is helping the FBI track the fugitive before he can reach the Canadian border. She's especially involved in the murder of Daniel Red Crow and the wounding of Ben Thundercloud. With her grandmother being part of the Thundercloud family, both victims are relations of hers. The wolf we all know might finally have returned. It's a pity though that in the midst of murder and manhunts, Ethane Brandt has returned from Afghanistan. As a major in the reserves who had served in the country during the original invasion his orders didn't come as a shock even if the word of a wedding did. Claire Halliday did kill the man she worked for, but then he was trying to kill her. If only the club she worked for wasn't owned by the mob, she might have had a chance at claiming self-defense. The burlesque club was about as bad as the orphanage she'd been raised in. Then again, the depression made any job worth keeping as she struggled to build a film career. Only another dancer pulling her out of there kept her free of the Mafia's grasp. The first train out of Hollywood was to Seattle, the first train leaving Seattle was to Bellingham. Mount Baker Lodge, 60 miles in the wilderness, should have been the perfect place to hide, but the next morning when she wakes up in the arms of another guest they find an early snowfall has trapped them with a killer. The professor shouldn't have died. Even if the tarot cards Claire played with had shown it would happen, an accident, illness perhaps, but not murder. Mayhem indeed.
