Commemorating Sarah Sze’s new permanent site-specific commission at Storm King Art Center Published to contextualize Sarah Sze’s (born 1969) outdoor work Fallen Sky and the accompanying installation Fifth Season at Storm King Art Center, this book includes an overview of the work in relation to Sze's larger practice. Also included is a discussion between Sze and artist Katharina Grosse to discuss Fallen Sky and thematic parallels in their respective work. Eight contributing authors from across disciplines of fiction, poetry, art history and cultural criticism contribute creative pieces in response to Sze’s work. The publication also includes photographs of Fallen Sky taken over the course of a full year, capturing the dynamic seasonality of the artwork and the context of Storm King’s environment. Installation photography illustrates Fallen Sky’s ability to reflect movement and to depict how the landscape behaves and changes over time, the work’s appearance shifting continuously depending on the season, time of day and weather.

Inspired by global masonry techniques and Hudson Valley history, Martin Puryear’s installation for Storm King Art Center opens its oculi onto the museum grounds This catalog documents the construction and unveiling of American artist Martin Puryear's (born 1941) monumental site-specific installation, Lookout, at Storm King Art Center in New Windsor, New York. The 20-foot-tall sculpture is built of layers of red clay bricks laid using thin-shell masonry techniques. Rather than straight lines and vertical walls, however, the work curves inward and upward, opening to allow entry from one side while producing a swelling form on the opposite end. In Lookout, Puryear evokes brickmaking as a once-primary industry in the Hudson Valley and references the vernacular structures that dot the local landscape. Inside the structure, Puryear uses the work’s form and setting to encourage a heightened sense of presence. The brick surface is punctuated by a constellation of 90 circular openings created by tubes of fiberglass-reinforced concrete in varying sizes. These oculi act as apertures, creating pinhole vignettes of the surrounding trees and sky. The book is complemented by a broader retrospective of Puryear’s work, including a selection of process models and drawings from over 40 years of his public sculptures and installations.

In a palette of blues, greens, pinks and purples, Shechet’s metal sculptures physically and conceptually expand her playful work with ceramics Published in conjunction with her exhibition of the same title, Girl Group brings together New York–born and –based artist Arlene Shechet’s (born 1951) recent work in wood, steel, ceramic, paper and bronze with six new monumental sculptures created for the expansive grounds of Storm King Art Center in New Windsor, New York. The exhibition centers on the translation of Shechet’s lyrical ceramics into the six robust, large-scale painted metal sculptures, an ambitious new body of work that expands upon the artist’s intuitive and handmade approach. Through her signature emphasis on process and improvisation, Shechet harnesses the expressive power of geometry, line, color and form in works displayed across Storm King’s hills, fields and galleries. Stunningly designed, this book features raw edges on boards with a flush trim, and captures Shechet’s practice through vibrant fabrication and installation photography, This book was published in conjunction with Storm King Art Center
