Molly is proud to count herself among the Order, but she cannot overcome the dark dangers facing her and her friends by enthusiasm alone. Ti år har gått siden mennene i bygda dro sin vei, tvangsvervet til å kjempe i Storkrigen. På ti år har ingen hørt noe fra dem, eller om konflikten. Dermed opprettet kvinnene ordenen Gjetermøy-garden, der de kun de tapreste stridsmøyene blir valgt til å beskytte bygda! Nå som Molly har fylt ti år, kan hun endelig ta fatt på opplæringen som vil la henne tre inn i ordenen, hvis hun viser seg verdig. Enda godt hun har bukken Svartskjegg og vennen Liam som følge på reisen!

Landsbyen i fare! Molly og Liam møter en fryktelig skapning skapt av svart magi når de er ute på oppdrag. De klarer så vidt å rømme fra uhyret tilbake til landsbyen, men folket er bekymret: Hvor kommer dette monsteret fra, og hvilken trussel utgjør det for byen? For å finne ut av dette reiser Molly og Liam til en mystisk øy, hvor Sarah den unge ravnheksa bor - kanskje hun kan gi dem noen svar?

Udyret og heksa er overvunnet, men det er en smertefull seier. Selv om Molly har kommet til hektene igjen, er hun alvorlig skadet. Bukkekrigerordenen tar en viktig beslutning: De må reise til Dødevidda for å finne kilden t il ondskapen som har rammet dem - og som truer Molly og Liam. En lang ferd venter dem i det ugjestmilde Nord. I dette oppdraget ligger også deres siste håp om å finne igjen mennene fra landsbyen som dro i krigen for over ti år siden

På ferden gjennom de dype gangene under fjellkjeden «Gudenes gravkammer», ble Molly, Liam og Sara skilt fra følget sitt av et ras. Mens innbyggerne i landsbyen de har søkt tilflukt i, legger ut på leting etter foreldrene deres, kan ikke barna gjøre annet enn å vente og håpe å få dem tilbake like hele. Molly og Liam må fortsatt krysse den sørgelige Dødevidda og komme seg til hovedstaden for å få vite om faren til Molly fortsatt er i live.
