Miksi historiantutkijan tulisi ajatella tutkimuksensa kohdetta pikemminkin vieraan kulttuurin kuin menneisyyden asiana? Mikä tekee historian totuudesta moniselitteisen? Miksi objektiivisuuden tavoittelu tuottaa päinvastaisen tuloksen kuin on toivottu? Tämänkaltaiset kysymykset on tehnyt ajankohtaisiksi ennen muuta ”uusien historioiden” läpimurto.
