Geoffrey Clarke (1924–2014) was a pioneer in a golden age of British sculpture, whose fearless experimentation with new materials and processes saw him create works that epitomise the vibrancy of the post-war British art scene. This fully-illustrated catalogue raisonné, the first of its kind, confirms Clarke’s position among the leading lights of a generation, which included Lynn Chadwick, Reg Butler and Kenneth Armitage. There are few familiar with the full scope of Clarke’s prolific output – how it transgressed from early iron pieces, indicative of the ‘geometry of fear’, to elegant aluminium works and later wooden abstract pieces of the 1990s. Spanning nearly five decades of making, Clarke’s impressive body of sculptural work is detailed alongside other elements of his diverse oeuvre – stained glass (including pieces created for Coventry Cathedral), silver, medals and textiles also feature. With catalogue entries accompanied by an exhibition history, list of public collections as well as a comprehensive bibliography, this book will be the definitive resource for curators, collectors, dealers and enthusiasts seeking a detailed overview of Clarke’s important artistic contribution.

Having travelled extensively throughout his life, Grant has drawn inspiration from landscapes from Antarctica to the tropics, While attracted to northerly territories (he has lived in Norway since 1996), the subject matter of Grant's bold images varies from marine volcanoes and rainforests to icebergs and glaciers. Dynamic and vital, elemental palettes conjure up abstracted fiery drama to figurative icy stillness. Seen collectively, the work reveals a creative energy that finds many forms of expression. This translates into an original visual language that questions and probes how we see the world around us. Much more than images, Grant's remarkable artistic contribution not only provides paintings that capture the world's beauty, but also extend our understanding of the environment, climate and the fundamental importance of nature.

Strata, 100 new paintings by landscape artist Jeremy Gardiner (b.1957), celebrates the spectacular Jurassic Coast on the 25th anniversary of its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gardiner has studied this coast for decades, constantly developing new approaches to depict its changing textures. For Strata, he visited twenty locations each year from 2018 to 2022, painting in different seasons, weather conditions, and as landfalls altered the coast. Geology is embedded in Gardiner’s work through laser-cut fossils specific to the locations depicted. Breaking new ground through its conceptual rigour and assimilation of techniques informed by science, geomorphology, virtual reality and digital imaging, Strata engages with coastal landscape at a time when it is viewed increasingly as a precious, threatened asset. Lavishly illustrated, Judith LeGrove’s essay, ‘The Texture of Time’ explores the influence of contemporary art and photography on Gardiner as well as the legacy of fossilists, film makers, writers and conceptual artists connected with the Jurassic coast. An essay on deep time and the Anthropocene, by award-winning writer and Professor of Literature and the Environment, Dr David Farrier, enhances the book’s significance. A ‘plate’ section, at the end of the publication, illustrates each of Gardiner’s 100 paintings in colour.
