Of all the persons in the national spotlight over the last fifty years, perhaps few have continued to be as polarizing as Bill Clinton. When he left office he was the most popular President since Ike Eisenhower. But today, due in part to the partisanship brought on by Hillary's attempts to become President, President Clinton has failed to achieve elder statesman status. While deeply beloved by many, he is vilified by others. But what makes Bill Clinton tick. An astute and well educated man, he began life with another name in a remote town in an all but forgotten southern state. But he rose to prominence to become a Rhodes scholar, law professor, Attorney General of Arkansas and then led as Governor for ten years gaining national acclaim for his work on education, welfare reform and health care. Defeating an incumbent President, he became a moderate force to be reckoned with in Washington. His historic Presidency, to be noted for numerous outstanding achievements, will forever be known as the second to be impeached as well as the second to be censored by Congress. What makes this man tick. Come along as historian Keith Pruitt attempts to determine the essence of Bill Clinton.

Few persons are truly ready for the challenges of the Presidency. But no one could have predicted what would face George W. Bush in short order after his election in a tight race in 2000. The historic election was challenging for the nation deeply divided ideologically. But his metal was sharpened greatly with the events of September 11, 2001 when terror struck at the very heart of America. George W. Bush rose to the occasion only to find himself bogged down with two wars and a failing economy. Winning reelection by the slightest of margins once more, he found himself struggling with Katrina and a failing financial system. When he left office, the economy was in shambles and the future seemed less than certain for the country. In his retirement, Bush has proven to be a sure and calming voice when he has chosen to speak publicly. History will have to be the final judge of his leadership.
