A race of enormous people once inhabited the lands in which this story is set. They lived here for thousands of years. They built cities and roads – so many cities, so many roads! They tilled the earth and grew crops – so many crops! They plundered even the ground itself for minerals and anything else it contained that they found useful. Then, in a very short space of time, they disappeared. Their cities stood empty, their fields untilled. Yet, there were survivors. The flora and fauna remained unharmed and flourished. Among the fauna, a very small race still remained, living as best they knew how. They looked very much like the race of human beings that had vanished, only they were much, much smaller.
