Mattie May Cottrill is the self-appointed sheriff of a small West Texas town with boarded up windows. She patrolled the streets nightly with her Catahoula dog, Pernella and her trusty old rifle. The main concern was that someone was trying to take over all the ranches through eminent domain. They were told that it would make the country energy efficient, however, no details were given to any of the ranchers. As time dragged on for months, the ranchers lost hope. Throughout their struggles things turned around somewhat.

Grandma Camp always said, "There's a Jack for Every Jenny," but almost in the extinct town of Coyote Creek in West Texas, there were no suitable girls for Joe or available guys for his sister, Mary Ellen. Just where were the "Jenny's"?A turn of events occurred at the little doctor's office where old Doc Morton was about ready to retire. An internship created for a year brought a young cardiologist into the area in spite of her reluctance to come to such a God forsaken area. And an ad on a bulletin board brought Mary Ellen her dream.

Mill Town USA is about a small Texas town that has been first baking in the summer heat and now devastated by a storm that wrecked havoc on the already overweathered buildings. Connie, a teacher from Wisconsin, drove to Texas to visit her brother who settled in the area ranching and working at the mill. Connie, na ve to the dangers on the lonesome road found herself sitting along the side of the road in her new car that refused to start. Along came 87 year old Russell McCarty driving his 1949 maroon Chevy pickup truck. He pulled over to see if he could help this stranger to the area. Tow truck called, he waited with her but the car still wouldn't start and had to be towed to Red's Garage, the only one in town. Russell McCarty drove Connie out to her brother's ranch and she got reacquainted with her sister in law, Debbie. On Sunday the family went to a unique church, a cowboy church. Although different from what she was used to, Connie liked the charismatic style of worship. After church the family met at Jack and Debbie's ranch for dinner under the big tree in the back yard. That is when Connie met Zeke, Debbie's brother, who was rather unfriendly and abrupt with her. She wondered if first impressions were always lasting...

I wondered what else I could learn about healing. I asked the Lord for a fresh word from Him and after a few days heard two things come to mind. The first was do not ask for the same things over and over again. The second was do not disagree with what God says in His word. Agree with God.

The people of Oak Creek knew how to manage the harsh environment of West Texas. Marge and Wade had lived on the ranch for years with a very capable ranch foreman who knew how to do almost everything--that is except manage his hot temper. He had ended up with black eyes because of it and finally ended up with a gunshot wound landing him in the hospital. A stern nurse known as Crack-the-whip Nurse Jarvis was a surprisingly positive influence on him. At the local book club the topic of discussion was, "Can people change?" Some thought so but others were not even willing to give a person a second chance. What do you think?

Speaking inTongues has always been a controversial subject . Growing up in a Pentecostal church I did not question the practice In the 1960's the mainline churches began to accept the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and sought for renewal in their various denominations. They put more emphasis on tongues as a prayer language to be used on a daily basis in order to build up a person and to pray in a way that got to the root of a problem.
