Gil Manning, a writer, hires a Beach Cottage and during his morning run along the beach he meets Fern and her dog Bitza. Gil tries to be friendly but Fern is very reticent. Gil's writer's instinct is intrigued and he is determined to find out more about her. Fern's Step Father leaves her an inheritance. Her Step Brother is furious, demanding that she refuse the gift. Fern leaves and goes to London to begin a new life. Little does she realise how eventful that life will be.
This book is a squeal to Sooner or Later. Again we meet Fern, Gil and Bitza the dog, and all their friends old and new. Beginning with teenagers Molly and Pippa and their bold plan, which begins a chain of consequences, which are sad or amusing or just plain foolish. The story ends with the most unexpected Consequence of all.
