After McCoy's shuttle was damaged in an explosion, he crashed on Epsilon Calisco 3, Planet 4562. His command had declared him killed on duty. He lived alone for three months on what the planet and an unknown benefactor provided. On the return from an extended exploration of the area around his cave home, he discovered people who were under attack from tall dirty humans, the Meerdol. His rescue and healing of the injured Ac ra and Baylem of the Hapai race of natives, the revealing of McCoy's benefactor as the changeling Eyen, the Noble Wolf, and forming a unique fighting force of native kindreds to defend against the Meerdol horde. When the Meerdol were defeated, McCoy, Eyen, Kayla returned to the ancient facility where the technology was found. Olcar, the facility's AI, helped McCoy develop satellites to monitor earth transmissions. This eventually resulted in learning Earth was on the verge of being invaded by an unknown race. After building an ideal war ship, McCoy, Eyen, Kayla along with Olcar as the ship's AI, traveled to Earth to offer their help. This is the story of that adventure.

Quinn, Eyen and Kayla, Quinn's TCU AI, return to Ebon Olcar from Earth space aboard the Arrow of Olcar after providing aid to Earth Forces in defending Earth from the generation ships of an invading alien culture. They were initially mistaken as invaders themselves and were attacked, several times before Earth Forces accepted them for who they were. Immediately after defeating the Ohmtahn-Rhee, a military coup took place against Earth's current world government, from within the Earth Forces military. The coup was led by a power-seeking captain of a Battlecruiser, Colonel Rutger Zendler, who had managed to gather a large number of high ranking officers to his cause. After two and a half months dealing with the Ohmtahn-Rhee, it took another five weeks to overcome the revolutionists. After a week of celebration and numerous awards, the crew of the Arrow extended their condolences and left Earth space for home. They needed to rest and to get back to their normal lives. Their 'normal' lives were quite far beyond normal Upon reaching home new problems were presented. A volcano developed and threatened an entire Kindred village. Ami Ward contacted her friend Kittie Harrison who worked at Portico. She found out that things were not so good at Portico and the CEO was ranting about it. Kittie was terrified she would be fired. Many people had been fired in the past month. Some had even disappeared. Some had been found dead. Suicide was the medical finding but there were questions. Kittie was kidnapped. Ami and Seattle Police Detective Ben Hewitt found her, but then he and Kittie were both fatally shot. Things really began to happen then

After recovering from a world disaster, the remaining two billion people on Earth returned to normal living, including the construction of several interstellar spacecraft. The McCoy Family is returning to Ebon Olcar from Perilon after helping the Nec n get settled on the new home world. They decide to visit the primitive planet of Penure Olcam to see what the wild belt-world offers up close. The discovery that the sentry satellites are no longer transmitting warning messages and another vessel is detected. This causes Quinn anxiety and worry. The vessel is conducting illegal mining operations on Penure Olcam. On approach, the Arrow is viciously attacked without warning. Eventually, warships of the ruthless Zabitaan race arrive to wipe out the Olcamid aliens. The first wave of a war begins.

The McCoy's are called to Earth to attend a meeting regarding a new world that had petitioned to join the Alliance of Planets. The planet, called Dai Minkoda, circles a G0-V type star similar to Earth's sun and to Chandra, Ebon Olcar's star. It is known as Aquilum and it is located in the Kinoan Omega cluster of stars just thirty-one light years from Earth and thirty-three light years from Ebon Olcar. Immediately after the meeting with the president, Quinn and Eyen and the Yakunun leave the Presidential compound and board their individual vehicles, when they are rendered unconscious by an undetected gas. The vehicles drive off and leave Camp Bush Marine Base, the military base where the Presidential Compound is located.Earlier, Kayla and Alice got bored and had left the meeting to go shopping. While at the mall, they were attacked by thugs in an attempt to kidnap them as well. The action failed and the five perpetrators were arrested.When the two women return to the Camp Bush Marine Base, Kayla notices two unmarked limousines leaving the gate as they arrive, but she does not think much of it. She and Alice are to meet their parents at their rooms at Camp Bush Marine Base Hotel but they are found to be absent. A call to the President reveals that they left nearly half an hour before, triggering Kayla's memory of the limos leaving the base. A call to the base Motor Pool yielded a location of one of the limos by satellite tracking.Alice and Kayla embark on a mission to recover her parents and the Yokunun from whoever had taken them. The mission leads them across the known quadrant of the galaxy and into the neighboring one and back. In the process, it is discovered that the Zabitaani Insurgency was again attempting to regain control of Zabitaan with the help of their Clanerian allies.

Due to circumstances, Willie provides the Sheriff's Office with the license plates of a car speeding away from a scene where explosives are found in David's car. He is subsequently beaten. David performs surgery to repair damage to the kidney and broken bones. He befriends Willie and takes him into his home and eventually adopts him as a brother.
