At the apex of the Civil Rights movement in America a young man from New Jersey was deployed to fight in our nation's first fully integrated war. Assigned to the 1st Infantry Division from October 1967 to October 1968, he shared the experience of combat with young men from all ethnic and economic backgrounds. Embracing their differences, they used their diverse backgrounds to draw on strengths and combined wisdom to deal with the dangers and difficulties that is combat. Each man brought to the experience his own form of wit, humor and common sense while working together they learned what it took to survive.

We are in the year 2090, the United States long ago allowed California and the other western states to secede from the Union. Inside the re-formed United States, now known as Femeron, only women may be elected to office. Men are bred in limited numbers and kept in Playgroups or in high security prisons. But the once successful Femeron cloning program has run into trouble and an increasing rate of failures has reached crisis proportions. One genetic scientist has made the controversial proposal to reintroduce male sperm back into the breeding process. In order to obtain the votes needed to have this approved and implemented, she needs to present males before the Femeron Summit Council that can convince their leaders that males have evolved out of their sociopathic predisposition towards violence. Who will she bring? A journey to a maximum-security prison might be her next step...

Paul Gebhart returned from a one year tour of duty in Vietnam with an un-diagnosed case of post-traumatic stress disorder. His solution was to self-medicate but that decision turned out to be disastrous for his marriage. His wife of ten years will no longer put up with his behavior. She forces him out of their house and begins seeing new people, in search of a new husband.As often happens, Gebhart realizes his loss but it is too late to save the marriage or even the relationship. After an acrimonious divorce he has lost his family, his home and a woman who once loved him. Knowing that he needs to start anew, he travels to Europe to visit the major art museums in England, France, Amsterdam and Italy. The people and places he experiences help him to overcome the pain of separation and allows him to go on with his life in a positive, energetic style.
