This book is dedicated to analyzing and comparing the most important philosophical ethical traditions in order to see what values and principles they share in common, as well as the possibilities of reaching a agreement on universal ethical principles. We will also seek to harmonize ethical traditions based on the good and happiness with ethical traditions based on duty and moral norms, as well as show the current need to reach a global consensus on a broad core values through an interdisciplinary, intercultural and interreligious dialogue that will serve as a basis for an ethical education that promotes the achievement of the desired goal of world peace.

Ante la confusi n actual de valores, ser a conveniente volver a la naturaleza para buscar posibles fundamentos sobre los que se pueda construir un sistema de valores comunes y universales que puedan armonizar las distintas visiones conflictivas y contradictorias actuales. En este libro se analizan varias controversias ya cl sicas como son el conflicto entre el materialismo y el idealismo, el debate sobre el origen y evoluci n de la vida y del universo, la pol mica entre el determinismo y la libertad, y el problema entre el individuo y la totalidad. Al final se enumeran una serie de principios generales de la naturaleza, que son de gran utilidad para armonizar las diferentes tradiciones cient ficas, filos ficas y religiosas.

En este libro se analizan los grandes desaf os que se tendr an que afrontar si se quiere conseguir una paz estable y duradera para el nuevo milenio. Un primer gran problema es acabar con el hambre y la pobreza en el mundo y lograr una ecualizaci n mundial de la riqueza. El segundo gran reto de nuestros d as es tratar de resolver el problema de la degradaci n moral y corrupci n generalizada en todos los niveles de la sociedad. Un tercer gran desaf o es intentar impedir las guerras y conflictos entre naciones, etnias o culturas que tan desastrosas consecuencias humanitarias ocasionaron en el siglo XX, as como solucionar el grave problema del terrorismo internacional.

En este libro, a modo de resumen y conclusi n, vamos a enumerar una serie de presupuestos b sicos que podr an ser elevados a la categor a de principios ticos universales. Estos principios ticos podr an ayudar a resolver los conflictos culturales, religiosos, nacionalistas o pol ticos entre naciones, as como los problemas del hambre en el mundo, la corrupci n de las elites gobernantes, las injusticias y males sociales, y la degradaci n moral de las familias e individuos. Y tambi n podr an servir para regular la convivencia armoniosa y pac fica entre individuos, familias, comunidades, naciones y civilizaciones que finalmente lleve a una paz mundial estable y duradera.

En este libro se presenta una propuesta de educaci n tica para la paz que incluye una educaci n del coraz n y del car cter, y una educaci n c vica e intercultural, que se imparta en la familia, escuela y sociedad. Lo que s parece evidente es que una educaci n superficial de los valores democr ticos no es suficiente para solucionar la crisis actual de valores y resolver los problemas de degradaci n moral individual, familiar y social que afectan m s, parad jicamente, a las naciones democr ticas. Given the current confusion of values, it would be convenient to return to nature to find possible grounds on which to build a system of common and universal values that can harmonize the various conflicting and contradictory views today. This book analyzes several classic controversies such as the conflict between materialism and idealism, the debate about the origin and evolution of life and the universe, the controversy between determinism and freedom, and the problem between the individual and the totality. In this work, we try to find answers, in clear and simple language that agree with the common sense of most people, to questions such as: What are the basic aspirations of human being? What are goods and values? Can we aspire to find truth, beauty, goodness, love and happiness? Is there a commonly accepted concept of good and evil? What are the motivations that move human beings to do good? Are there universal moral laws? Is man good by nature? Does the problem of moral and social evils have a solution? What is conscience? Can ethics offer a solution to current human problems?

This book compares the most important religious traditions in order to discover the values and ethical principles they share in common, as well as the possibilities of reaching a consensus in core values that serve as the basis of an ethical education that fosters peace world.Despite the end of the cold war, there is now a growing danger of new wars, conflicts and clashes between different peoples, cultures and civilizations, as well as the serious threat of international terrorism. It can be observed that many of these new conflicts have a religious background, so today more than ever we see the need to reach a religious peace if we want to advance towards world peace.

Human rights, despite being an example of values accepted almost universally, seem incomplete and insufficient, since, by placing exclusively the emphasis on individual rights, they relegate to the background the responsibilities of people towards others.Therefore, human rights are difficult to accept by many of the traditional Eastern cultures that emphasize, instead, family and community duties.Thus, in order to achieve the desired goal of world peace, a global intercultural and interreligious consensus should be sought in a shared core values that harmonize traditional cultural values with modern democratic ideals.

In this book, as summary and conclusion, we will list a number of basic and fundamental assertions that could be elevated to the category of universal ethical principles. These ethical principles could help to resolve cultural, religious, nationalist or political conflicts between nations, as well as the problems of world hunger, corruption of ruling elites, social injustices and evils, and moral degradation of families and individuals. They could also serve to regulate harmonious and peaceful coexistence between individuals, families, communities, nations and civilizations that ultimately leads to a stable and lasting world peace.

This book presents a proposal for ethical education for peace that includes a character and heart education, and a civic and intercultural education, to be taught in the family, school and society. What is clear is that a superficial education of democratic values is not enough to solve the current crisis of values and solve the problems of individual, family and social moral degradation that paradoxically affect more to democratic advanced nations.Rather, it would require a genuine silent revolution that will bring people to a moral maturity, form healthy families, and create communities and nations that live in peace and harmony.
