Good evening. Come, come in. Get out of the rain. What a nasty night. Here, let me take your coat. I'll just put it here in the clos- On second thought, maybe I'll just hold onto it for you. It's better if that particular closet door is kept closed. Come, there's a fire going in the library. I need to tell you a few things before you start exploring. Whoops Mind the cobwebs there. I have no idea what kinds of spiders live in this place, but I'm pretty sure they're not your average, everyday house spiders.So... you've come to explore Haunted House, have you? You like being scared? Well, you've come to the right place then. I have to warn you, though. Haunted House has a lot of rooms. It's easy to get lost, and once you're lost inside Haunted House, there is no getting out. Feel free to explore, but keep in mind that I am merely the caretaker. What you find inside is entirely your own risk to take. And I shouldn't have to say this, but do not-I repeat, do not-touch anything, engage anything in conversation, or look anything straight in the eye. Do not scream, cry, whimper, or make any other kinds of noises that might alert anything to your presence. If any of the things in any of these rooms get into your head, it will take years of therapy and exorcism to get them out. This is no ordinary Haunted House. Each room is different, and the insidious things inside of each room have all crawled out of their own separate graves. Not all of them are dangerous. Some of them simply like playing pranks on you. And some of them... some of them will do everything in their power to drag you back to the grave with them. But hey, you knocked.A few other things I should tell you before you enter. Flashlights have a funny way of blinking out at the worst possible moment, so try to keep your eyes adjusted to the dark as best as possible. If you hear something slithering, watch your step. You will be on your own in there, I cannot help you. The mind has a funny way of betraying you, so don't let it wander too far. And finally, if you find yourself in trouble, if the rooms become too much for you or if you become hopelessly lost, fear not. You won't be able to escape, but there are plenty of empty rooms just dying to be occupied.Right then, off you go. I'll be here in the library by the fire. May you find whatever thing it is you came here for, and may whatever that thing is have mercy on your soul...

Animal Control Training-Lunar Pines, Idaho. Dead of night, just left of the middle of nowhere..."I'm going to go over the rules with you, understand? What you're about to go through is absolutely necessary. I need you on the same page as me with this, kid. This is deadly serious business. You are not to make a single sound; not a sneeze, not a cough, not a hiccup. You are not to move. I don't care if a fire ant starts chewing on your big toe, you remain motionless, got it? You are not to burp, pass gas, piss your pants, or expel any type of odor that isn't outside of your control. The rules are that simple. If you're going to be a cop in Lunar Pines then you gotta go through this. We all have. After tonight you'll understand what it means to work in these mountains. ...I'm going to tell you one more thing, Dwight. What's out there? What you're going to see tonight? It is going to scare you. Believe me, kid, it's a lot better knowing that ahead of time."

Whatever the higher purpose, Lisa was resigning herself to the fact that werewolves had become her life. They had ripped her soul mate away from her, right in front of her, thrusting her into their world for good. Call it the cruelty of providence, call it coincidence, call it what you will, but Lisa was accepting the fact that this was now her lot in life, and forever would be. You've been lucky, said the voice in the back of her mind. You're not indestructible. Then what the hell have I been doing all this time?Following a path. A path? To where? To here. The destination means nothing without the journey it took to get there, Lisa. Half-drunk bullshit I'm supposed to fight Yes. You are.She picked up her second bottle of Southern Comfort and cracked the cap. She was going to have to be a lot drunker than she was to do what she was about to do...
Sharp Knives & Skewers: An uncensored, buck naked and full frontal tour through the chef life
If you're reading this, then you undoubtedly have an interest in the cheffing industry. Maybe you're curious. Maybe you like watching those bullshit reality cooking shows and they've sucked you in. You've most likely read other books on the subject of cheffing and cookery because maybe you like to cook yourself. Or maybe you've worked in the industry at one point or another-waitressing yourself through college, or catering for a wedding because your mate was short staffed and needed a favour. Either way, I'm not here to polish anyone's balls. I'm here to relieve myself of seventeen years of hard living before the grill. I've sweat, bled, burned, been to the ER more times than I can count to have something sewed back on or put back where it's supposed to be, fed thousands upon thousands of people, suffered my hang-overs with humility, performed magic, crashed and burned, and did the impossible when it was called upon me to do so. And I did it because I am a chef, and that's what chefs do. You want the reality of what it is to work as a chef, then buy this book. If you're looking for the sterilized Martha Stewart version, then I suggest you strap on your pretty little apron and check the fiction section. There are plenty of flower and butterfly accounts of cooking, but I'm here to tell you straight. It's a dirty business, full of colourful expletives, loads of bullshit, frustration, stress, ulcers, blood, tears, and the best damn rush to be had anywhere. But don't worry. This isn't my memoir. This isn't about me and what a great chef I am and how successful I was and blah blah blah. My ego was taken from me a long time ago for the good of the food. These are my observations, from what I've seen, what I've learned, and what I know of working in kitchens. Semper Fi. Loyalty to the food.
