The Percussionist's Wife: A Memoir of Sex, Crime & Betrayal
"It will get worse before it gets better," I heard the full-bosomed tarot card reader tell my husband, who was being investigated for raping one of his drum line students. Two weeks later, my husband of 11 years was officially charged with forcing himself on his student, and the crime was reported in detail in the newspaper. I wanted to categorize the whole mess as a foolish choice made by my husband. What I simply could not absorb -- even when it was presented to me in the black and white of a dispassionate newspaper story -- was the impact of his sexual encounter with a high school senior in my home while I was out of town. The fortune teller was right. It got worse. And the "better" was nowhere in sight.***Author Monica Lee explores themes of fidelity, faith and justice in "The Percussionist's Wife: A Memoir of Sex, Crime & Betrayal," the true story about the demise of a marriage after revelations of adultery and criminal sexual conduct. In a perverse age when politicians hide children bred by their mistresses and coaches prey upon their charges, "The Percussionist's Wife" is a modern parable on the nature of betrayal and atonement for those who have endured the shame and mystery of unspeakable secrets.Monica Lee, a former journalist and writer, draws on her skills as a daily newspaper reporter and relies on the police evidence file to recreate her husband's ongoing philandering with his students throughout their marriage and to illustrate how she coped -- or didn't -- with the criminal charges against him.
Truth, Dare, Double Dare, Promise or Repeat: On Finding the Meaning of "Like" in 1982
In a world before social networks made it a routine act performed with a click, "like" is a state of mystery and meaning among teenagers navigating the halls of Wadena Senior High School. Fifteen-year-old Monica is sure she would be happy if only she had a boyfriend, but first she endures a litany of boys who think flirting is accomplished with insults and other shenanigans. After her first kiss, performed on a dare and described in the pages of Dear Diary as "the pits Gross Dirty " Monica learns the truth about French kissing from a charming outsider. Navigating relationships and learning the meaning of like-or love-is far trickier.Set in a "hick town" on the windswept plains of Minnesota where a teenager's social calendar is marked by basketball games, cafeteria dances and playing Pac-Man at the bowling alley arcade, Truth, Dare, Double Dare, Promise or Repeat examines the fateful year Monica devotes to reeling in a keeper of a boyfriend like so much walleye. With self-deprecating humor, authenticity and awkward details captured on the pages of the diaries Monica faithfully kept at the time, it's a story that reminds us what it feels like to be a teenager again, grappling with timeless questions of desire, loyalty and finding answers. This book is for every teenager trying to navigate the maze of finding true love, or at least true "like," and for every woman who grew up in the '80s who might have forgotten all she learned during those seemingly simpler times.
On the Nature of Human Resource Development
The nature of human resource development (HRD) has been, and remains, a contested topic – the debate was sparked in part by Monica Lee’s seminal 2001 paper which refused to define the discipline of HRD, but has been accentuated by increasing globalization, political unrest, inequality and the erosion of boundaries. Should HRD now be seen as more than ‘training,’ or a sub-function of large western bureaucracy? This book represents a very wide view of HRD: that it is at the core of our ‘selves’ and our relationships, and that we continually co-create ourselves, our organisations and societies. These ideas are hung upon a model of Holistic Agency, and supported from sources as diverse as evolutionary psychology, science fiction, the challenges of transitional economies, and the structural uncertainties of contemporary society. Examining the tensions between self and other, agency and structure, the book draws inspiration from an almost-autoethnographic approach. This yields a text that is personal, entertaining, and easier to read than many academic tomes – yet considers the depth and development of the human condition, and locates HRD within that.

What you are about to read in this book are poetic conversations between two people in love that have never met physically. It is both a play and sincerity with words, concepts, emotions and life that unfolds a love story that we wanted to give to others to say that love isn t impossible and it has no borders. It is also a book where we put out our ideas that, in our opinion, are essential concepts for love to thrive while getting to know each other as a couple would in the beginning of any relationship. You will see the authors are quite different, but on the same path. Her words are wild like paint splattered on a canvas with brush strokes everywhere and he responds in a more poetically choreographed manner to create "Poetic Conversations". Monica and J rgen
Human Resources, Care Giving, Career Progression and Gender
This book presents a challenge to feminist perspectives that see the glass ceiling as the exclusive domain of women's careers and work life. The authors address existing debates and extend them to include original empirical evidence from several US and UK comparative studies that look at the effect of caring for dependents (including care for children and elder care) upon the careers and aspirations of both men and women.
