‘I cannot help but see the bodies of my near ancestors in the current caravans of desperate souls fleeing from place to place, chased by famine, war and toxins. Ideas honed in slavery – of the otherness, the boorishness, the inferiority of thy neighbour – have continued to travel through American society.’ The story of slavery in America is not over. It lives on in how we speak to one another, in how we treat one another, in how our societies are organised. In Giving a Damn, the legal scholar Patricia Williams finds that when you begin to unpick current debates around immigration, freedom of speech, the culture wars and wall-building, beneath them lies the unexamined history of enslavement in the West. Our ability to dehumanize one another can be traced all the way from the plantation to the US President’s Twitter account. Williams begins in the American South with Gone With the Wind (still the second most popular book in the USA after the Bible), that nostalgic tale full of the myths of the Southern belle, Southern culture, ‘good food and good manners’. The scene is seductive, from a distance. How nice it is to paper over the obliging slavery at the novel’s core, and enjoy the wisteria-covered plantations, now the venue for weddings. But Williams’s maternal great-grandmother was a slave, her great-grandfather a slave-owner, and papering over has left us in a world that has never been more segregated, incarcerated or separated from each other. Williams wants to know which ideas brought the richest and most diverse nation on the planet to the brink of resurgent, violent division and what this means for the rest of the world. And she finds that most of those ideas began in slavery.

Prayer is the most potent force known to humanity. Because we have been made partakers in Jesus' victory over sin and death (1 John 4:4), we have the authority as sons and daughters of God to pray for others, pushing back the darkness of sin and oppression. In prayer, we have a weapon that has "divine power to destroy strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:4). That kind of weaponry - the power of prayer - is something God invites us to use, as we seek not only personal transformation, but transformation of the world as well. An intercessor is one who takes up a "burden" that goes far beyond his or her own needs and intentions. Those who take up the call to intercession come to learn in a deeper way that the sufferings of the present time cannot compare to the joy that will come as God's purposes unfold. Intercessors participate in God's magnificent plan to raise humanity to share in divine life. This insight moves them to engage in a spiritual battle against the forces that seek to destroy God's plans, proving The Power of a True Intercessor. About the Author: Prophetess Patricia J. Williams is the president and founder of Faith In God International Ministries and Patricia J.Williams Ministries. She is also a woman of Revelation, Power, and is an Intercessor. With a unique style of ministering the Word of God, God uses her mightily through Prophesy, Visions, and Dreams. She currently resides in Louisiana, where she is working on her next book, The Endurance of Pleasing God: Breaking the Chains of Tradition. Publisher's website: http://sbpra.com/PatriciaJWilliams

After a lifetime of strained bonds with her aging parents, Patricia Williams finds herself in the unexpected position of being their caregiver and neighbor. As they all begin to navigate this murky battleground, the long-buried issues that have divided their family for decades - alcoholism, infidelity, opposing politics - rear up and demand to be addressed head-on. Williams answers the call of duty with trepidation at first, confronting the lines between service and servant, guardian and warden, while her parents alternately resist her help and wear her out. But by facing each new struggle with determination, grace, and courage, they ultimately emerge into a dynamic of greater transparency, mutual support, and teachable moments for all. Honest and humorous, graceful and grumbling, While They're Still Here is a poignant story about a family that waves the white flag and begins to heal old wounds as they guide each other through the most vulnerable chapter of their lives.

This original book collects poems and stories about being a poet, stories we rarely tell eachother. These stories express the life of a poem from initial experience to artistic conception tofinally, a "home"-printed in a literary journal or a book, illuminated on a web page, presented in an art exhibit, or residing in a reader's heart. Through her often wry and always captivating narrations, Patricia Williams guides readers through a tour of each poem's publication history. I would recommend this book to any person, young or old, who wishes to be a published poet but needs a model and the courage to persist.-Angela Williamson Emmert, MFA, Adjunct Faculty, University of Wisconsin, Fox ValleyIn this collection of poems and mini-essays, Patricia Williams documents her journey from finished piece to rejection and finally acceptance. What I find most interesting are her reflections on this voyage, her thoughts and revelations that come as a result. The book is eminently readable. I sat down to read it and couldn't put it down. There is a lot to learn about persistence and the notion that there may be a home for your poem even if many doors to publication seem to be closed. Three things to remember after reading this book: every editor has his or her own taste, every editor is human, and Poet, don't ever give up -Karla Huston, Wisconsin Poet Laureate emerita, author of Ripple, Scar, and StoryThis book is a must-have motivator for any poet who's ever received a rejection letter. Pat's submission experiences are written testimony that persistence is not an afterthought. It is an essential part of the process for every poet who expects to be successfully published. Take it from an experienced professional-this works.-Joe Jones, publisher emeritus, JP Media, LLC
