After escaping from a Mexican prison, Diego Medina, a former member of the violent Los Zetas cartel, along with several members of his gang cross the border into Texas. Robbing several homes and pawn shops, they begin to acquire the weapons needed to commence a series of armed attacks on armored cars. After pulling off four such attacks, including two brutal and violent attacks in New Mexico and North Carolina, Diego's men try to locate Paul Waring at his home in South Carolina. Years earlier, during a narcotics takedown that Paul had been in charge off, members of Medina's crew were apprehended while delivering a truckload of heroin and cocaine in Fairfield, Connecticut. One of those members caught in Paul's trap was Medina's brother. In a failed attempt to free his brother, several gang members were shot and killed; among them was Diego's brother. Filled with years of hate, and wanting revenge against Paul for his brother's death, Medina's plan is to kill Paul and Donna Waring. But while the attacks on the armored cars go well, and while Diego is soon surrounded by a significant amount of wealth, another part of his plan goes horribly wrong as three members of his gang are either shot and killed, or captured, during another violent attack. Among those who are killed is another one of Medina's brothers, and one of his most vicious killers. After paying one of his cousins a large sum of money to find out where Paul Waring is, Diego and his crew, including a violent killer he has hired, head to Connecticut to locate the retired state trooper. Days later, in Southbury, Connecticut, another of Diego's cousins stumbles across Paul, Donna, and Paul's mother at a small family-run restaurant. As Diego and his crew race to Southbury to fulfill his plan of killing Paul, they also have plans of knocking off another armored car in the small rural town. What they do not know is that Paul has plans of his own. But what do Paul's plans involve and how can he

First introduced in Peter Warren's novel, Confederate Gold and Silver, the author's principal protagonist, Paul Waring, along with his wife, Donna, and Paul's best friend, Bobby Ray Jenkins, head up an exciting and talented list of criminal investigators from across South Carolina's Grand Strand. Confronted by a series of brutal murders, and with little evidence to work with, Bobby Ray, the commander of the Georgetown County Sheriff's Department's Major Case Squad, along with his boss, Sheriff Leroy Renda, convince Paul to help them work these on-going murders. Retired from the Connecticut State Police Department, Paul's background includes not only being one of Connecticut's top investigators prior to his retirement, but someone who also enjoyed a long and successful stint as a criminal investigator. Paul's expertise in dealing with a host of vicious and brutal criminals, including a lengthy list of murderers and drug runners, caused many departments across Connecticut to have sought his help in solving a wide variety of complex crimes that were not only sadistic and heinous, but brutal and disturbing in how the victims were killed. As Paul joins the task force Renda and Bobby Ray have created, a key piece of evidence continues to be left behind at each of the scenes where the killer has dumped his victims' remains. This key piece of evidence are red bandanas that, in some cases, have been left stuffed inside the mouths of each of the victims. Also left at each of the scenes by the killer are notes; each covers a range of different topics. As the investigations continue, so do the killings. But then, as these bandanas are closely examined by Paul, Bobby Ray, and Douglas Vane, the chief forensic examiner for the Georgetown County Sheriff's Department, Paul notices several clues the others have missed. One of those clues soon leads him to their second suspect. He then advises his partners of the presence of this second killer; someone just as brutal as their first suspect. As Paul and the others struggle to identify their primary suspect, Donna Waring makes what she believes to be an innocent comment regarding someone she knows. From this point on, Park works feverishly to connect the evidence to the person Donna has mentioned. As he delves into each of these murders, Paul also works to find the answer to one other issue. Why have the victims been murdered in Myrtle Beach and their bodies dumped in Georgetown. THE HORRY COUNTY MURDERS takes place along the scenic Grand Strand in South Carolina. Readers who have visited Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet, and Georgetown, SC, will enjoy how Warren has used many popular tourist attractions as the scenes for this story. The excitement and suspense Warren has weaved into this tantalizing murder mystery will keep readers on edge as they turn each page. A former Major Crime commander, as well as being the longest serving commanding officer of the Connecticut State Police Department's Statewide Narcotic Task Force, Warren's vast experience has allowed him to write a story which readers of crime novels and murder mysteries will thoroughly enjoy. This is a MUST read for those who enjoy a fast-paced novel while trying to identify who the two killers are that Paul's skills and talents have finally identified. Can you identify who the two killers are?The author of seven novels, Warren's latest story, FORGOTTEN TREASURE, is a sequel to his popular novel, CONFEDERATE GOLD AND SILVER.

Five Fatal Shots is a MUST read for those who enjoy thrilling and intoxicating murder mysteries which keep us guessing as to who's behind these senseless and cowardly acts which so many of us enjoy reading about. Along with his other novels, including The Horry County Murders, Murder in Murrells Inlet, Confederate Gold and Silver, and One Brother's REVENGE, the author's principal protagonist, retired state trooper Paul Waring is again charged with having to solve a senseless and horrific crime. With little evidence to work with, Paul, assisted by his close friend, Captain Bobby Ray Jenkins, of the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, and several other detectives, is called on to solve the brutal murders of five young men who have been found inside a home they have rented near the beach just south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Not only have these victims been murdered, but the killer has set fire to the residence after shooting his last victim. In several different rooms, each of the victims have been found after a host of First Responders struggle to put out the fire that has been intentionally set. For several twisted reasons, the person responsible for these murders has set the house on fire; one of those reasons is especially sinister. He has done so in hopes the fire will not only consume any evidence accidentally left behind at the scene, but also to throw off the investigators who will soon start looking into this horrific event. In his mind, he also hopes the fire will be ruled as accidental, and that the investigators fail to determine each of the victims was shot to death prior to the fire being started. With Captain Bobby Ray Jenkins, the commanding officer of the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Major Case Squad, initially flat on this back after undergoing a recent back operation, and with his recently appointed assistant, Lieutenant Audrey Small, already showing signs she is not ready to assume responsibility of such a high-profile investigation, Paul Waring is brought in to manage this labor-intensive investigation. With little evidence to go on and with even fewer eyewitnesses, Paul is forced to start working this investigation the old-fashioned way. While DNA evidence will later play an important role in this investigation, he and his team of detectives must start pounding the pavement by conducting a series of interviews with a host of friends and family members who knew the victims. Those interviews include one with an unfriendly neighbor who has threatened to harm several of the victims in the past. Paul's biggest break comes when two of his detectives interview the homeowner several days after the murders were committed. During this interview, Paul's detectives learn of another fire that was intentionally set in the victims' backyard several weeks earlier. But who set that fire, and for what purpose? Was it the same individual who shot and killed these five young men and set fire to their residence, or was it someone else? And why has Paul seen fit to bring his wife and a civilian employee from the sheriff's office into this investigation?During the author's nearly three decades of serving as a state trooper, one of the most horrific investigations he supervised was the senseless murder of five young men. That tragic incident serves as the basis for this story.
