The Special Kids of Sharon are real live puppy-dogs, who are next door neighbors and live on a very quiet street called Sharon. Yes, their backyards do adjoin a cornfield. All three kids, needless to say, are our own special kids, very much loved and the inspiration for the books. All of the illustrations in the books are created using actual pictures of the kids and surrounding countryside, by the author and Abbey and Jakey's mom. The loss of her Abbey prior to this publication was devastating. She is deeply missed but never forgotten. Along with Abbey's new big brother Jakey, the author is setting up a fund called "The Abbey and Jakey Fund" A percentage of any profits from the sale of this book will go into the fund. This fund will be used to help beloved pets of the elderly on a fixed income, who could use a little help with the cost of their pet care.
