This six-year-old child was put in a position that she never forgot that shaped the person that she became. Even though Clara was only six years old, she was smart beyond her years; and while she loved her family, she had already determined that the life she was going to have was going to be totally different from the life she was experiencing thus far. R. Jay Berry is the bestselling author, educator, storyteller, and speaker. She began her writing journey after a thirty year career at the Dallas Independent School District and retiring as Executive Director of Academic Services. Mrs. Berry lives in Desoto with her husband of 40 years, Bernard, and their German shepherd, Strawberry Sundae. Beginning in 2017, several close family members became ill, and I was the designated caregiver. I was always taught that you help your family and friends whenever possible without question. It never occurred to me to do otherwise even though my life had basically stopped. The Help Chronicles was written as a testament to the time I spent helping my family members and how I learned the varied definitions of this small four-letter word. It was a trying and sad time for me, but the help I provided for them showed me the difference I made in their lives and how grateful they were to me. Though they didn't ask, they accepted all of the help I could give them.
