Body Politic adds to the conversation of a generation with poetry that invokes thoughtful reflection. Whether you read for the love of poetry, to cheer and contemplate your beliefs, or simply to get a better understanding of other viewpoints, Body Politic delivers stunning poetry and deeply interesting reflections on relevant topics today. This is a must read Praise for Rich Murphy Rarely do I like explicitly political poetry, yet Richard Murphy may have convinced me otherwise. Murphy shows in Body Politic how poems can be polemical without being didactic, philosophical without throwing out any of a poems linguistic or moral core. Murphy manages to be both heartfelt and playful, ironic and sincere, language-drivenand wild with the material world. Truly worth savoring a few times both as individual poems and as an entire collection. - C. Derick Varn, editor of Former People The poems found in Body Politic are the essential poems of today, a persistent and passionate fugue, an irony, something we need, an elixir for the malaise of paralysis that has engulfed an increasingly terrified humanity. We only have to consider the facts. We need to read these poems. - Michael Rothenberg Rich Murphy's Body Politic delivers a litany of lyrical and surreal protests against the "conspicuous unsaid that] rules the state for the mind" of a nation addicted to perpetual war and processed news. Murphy's songs of struggle are strong medicine for "the subject and the drunken, resilient question mark behind the eyes." Body Politic is a diagnosis and antidote for the cancer of our times. "No one with a breath escapes." These are poems of resistance and revival. - W. Scott Howard, University of Denver

First Aid dresses wounds inflicted in a world of ""same,"" self-absorption, and the death of the literary. It marks out what has been lost and explores alternative ways for Homo sapiens. The title also refers to the Percival myth where the wound carries the cure. Think Schiller's play drive. Think a bridge over romanticism, modernism, and postmodernism.

German philosopher Byung-Chul Han defines poetry as luxury in language, and where Andre Breton in his Manifesto on Surrealism claims that only the marvelous is beautiful, Han states, I cannot conceive of the beautiful apart from the foreign. All genuine beauty is foreign. The marvelous, the foreign transport the reader to the experience of being alive. Poetry, for the author, remains an attempt to slow the reader down and pull the reader out of the humdrum world of platitude and cliche of everyday language, providing a foreign lodge, a house of being and dwelling with ironic wit: the sublime poem. From beginning to the end, it provides a world of thought to expose the contemporary cynicism and foster vision for tomorrow. The seventy-four poems in Meme Measure have as an initial impetus Rene Girard's writing on mimetic theory, mimetic rivalry, and scapegoat. I see the collection as lodges for dwelling on the various implications for us today, while attempting to plumb emotion as subjective and objective within Homo sapiens.

Rich Murphy's Practitioner Joy is the poet's confrontation with his practice as a poet and, at least in part, his inevitable death. When outside Plato's Cave, capitalism's crisis horizon threatens with precarious neoliberalism, Wendy Brown's "every conduct is economic conduct," cyber algorithms and Shoshana Zubo's "I once was mine; now I am theirs," and Yuval Noah Harari's and Stephen Hawking's "Homo Deus" (a new species of humans from the loins of the wealthy only), prophetic voices are needed in an eort to counter and perhaps change the narrative's and the future's direction. is collection of poems attempts to do just that. It is an alternative voice oering a way forward.

Mind of Europe: A Genealogy to The Fat Man
For the inside cover or somewhere in the book Rich Murphy's collection, Mind of Europe, time-travels into the past and may act as a sifter for possible insight into our 21st Century liminal times, where liberalism is dead, and fear of a capitalist and technological future reigns. The sometimes-lighthearted re-enactments mirror the thoughts of a host of 20th century European thinkers. The collection of poems could well be described as a s ance calling back spirits for commiserating with the Western world today shapeshifting at a threshold. French poet Paul Valery described the "mind of Europe" "Every mind of any scope was a crossroads for all shades of opinion; every thinker was an international exposition of thought. There were the works of the mind in which the wealth of contrasts and contradictory tendencies was like the insane displays of light in the capitals...."
