A young man joins the Metropolitan police for what he believes are all the right reasons, to help law abiding citizens and protect them from the undesirable element of society, the criminals. He really believes he can make a difference, a little naive perhaps and as time passes he begins to realize just how naive he is. Time and time again criminals are walking away from justice and their just punishments, some of his colleagues became so disillusioned they left the force because of it. Then one day he was told to go and assist another station with a major incident, what he saw there changed his life for ever. He met a senior officer who when he believed it was justified as he did on this occasion punished the offender himself, the young officer witnessed this and was asked if he agreed with what the senior officer had done, he did. He was invited to join a group of like minded police officers he accepted that offer and was soon transferred to the senior officers station, and that's when his "adventure" really began. The young man soon found a side of his character which relished being "allowed" to punish offenders as he saw fit with the approval and protection of his senior officer. Once involved with this group he found there were a lot more like minded officers involved than he could have possibly imagined in other departments and other stations not only his. However all is not what it seems and the young officer is in for quite a surprise himself, one he never thought possible.

The story is about a group of South London boys that drifted into a life of crime, it was a natural "career choice" for them given their backgrounds and the environment they were dragged up in. They've known each other since school and been best mates ever since. They've always been involved in some kind of petty crime in one way or another since they were kids, thieving mostly. They've all got their own particular areas of expertise and have contacts in all kinds of places, between them they can get you anything you want. For example one deals in stolen cars another in credit card fraud and so on if you want them to get something for you or you want them to do something and it's not in their usual line of work they'll know someone that can do it or supply it. The story goes on to describe how they decide to pool their resources and start their own "firm" this brings them into contact with some "hardened criminals" that in turn "ask" them to provide certain "services" they really don't want to get into, well not all of them anyway, but you don't say no to these fellas. It all turns a bit sour for the boys, in the beginning it was all a bit of a laugh just some "cockney herberts" out for the crack, now it's got serious, deadly serious. Some of the boys see it as a natural progression into the "glamourous" world of the "gangster" some don't. The problems they have need to be sorted and the options are limited some of the boys don't have a problem with the action they need to take, some do. It all becomes a bit of a nightmare really one they may never wake up from.

Whilst renovating an old house in London the builders make a gruesome discovery, which in turn leads to a major police investigation. The story follows the various lines of enquiry police officers pursue, also the people they meet during the course of those enquiries. Along with some of the more "unconventional interests" a few of those people are into. To the senior investigating officer this initially seemed to be a fairly straightforward case but developed into anything but.

Cheating is a risky business and being caught doing so could possibly result in you suffering some dire consequences. If you are unlucky enough to cheat on someone who regards being humiliated and made to look a fool as a very serious and unforgivable "sin" against him. Then beware if you are caught out by such a person the punishment you could receive for doing so would be extremly harsh and painful, literally the price you pay for cheating. This story is about such a person his retribution on the people that have offended him and how it gets out of control. How he adjusts to the ever changing consequences of his actions and the subsequent police investigation, along the way he becomes involved with a person connected to one of his "victims" who becomes an unlikely "allie". The story goes on to show what can happen when a person such as the main character takes his revenge and it gets out of control his attempts to cover his tracks and a surprising turn of events that compound the "complications" he encounters.
