The biography of the radio comic Fred Allen is a vision of comedy in the 20th century and of an individual remembered for his incisive wit and talent. Starting in vaudeville as the "World's Worst Juggler," graduating to the Broadway stage of variety shows and torch singers, Fred Allen became an American icon in the 1930s and 1940s. Drawing from Allen's scripts, journals, letters and books, Robert Taylor has recreated that humour. Robert Taylor is the author of "Saranac" and is art critic and senior book critic for the "Boston Globe".

Contemporary relations between Greater China and Japan have been conditioned both by differing responses to the impact of Western colonialism during the mid-nineteenth century and the legacy of the Cold War. There are mutual suspicions: the Chinese fear of a Japanese military revival and the Japanese concern over increasing Chinese economic competition and territorial ambitions.Robert Taylor recognises the mistrust in Sino-Japanese relations, but also sees shared advantages in this traditionally adversarial relationship. The Chinese are currently modelling their economic strategy on Japan's developmental experience, even though China's policies and institutions have distinctive features and differing agendas. The study also examines the growing momentum towards sub-regional integration; rivalry between Greater China and Japan is giving way to competition between regional economic blocks and corporate entities.Greater China and Japan explores the ambiguous relationship between the two countries and states that its development is crucial to the future of the region in the twenty-first century.

"The Astronomico-Theological Discourses" by Robert Taylor explores the intersection of astronomy and theology, delving into the philosophical implications of the cosmos as understood through both scientific and religious lenses. This work examines how astronomical discoveries impact theological doctrines and philosophical thought, offering a fascinating perspective on the relationship between the observable universe and humanity's understanding of the divine. Taylor's discourses provide a valuable insight into the intellectual landscape of his time, reflecting the ongoing dialogue between scientific advancement and religious belief. When Rosina Ali, an Afghan refugee, accepted the invitation of the Home Security Team to be the bait for trapping a gang of people-trafficking modern-day slavers, she had no idea she would end up in the same Norfolk woods as a deluded ex Royal Marine determined to avenge the death of his wife during Covid. A fatality in the woods sparks further investigation into other names on the Wish Dead List. It is now a race to save the life of the Prime Minister, on the one hand, or assassinate him, on the other. John Wells is the man with a personal vendetta against everyone from the local GP's receptionist through to the Prime Minister, having taken inspiration from the killer of the only British PM, Spencer Percival in 1812, to be assassinated whilst in office. Will he become the modern-day John Bellingham?

First published in 1978. Britain’s unions were blamed by many people for the country’s post-war economic decline. Portrayed as greedy wreckers who wanted to run the country, they had become scapegoats for the state of the nation. This anatomy of Britain’s diverse and complex trade union movement sets out to question that widespread opinion. The main argument advanced in the study is that unions in Britain were too weak, not too strong. From the 1940s until the 1970s, Robert Taylor believes, they had failed to achieve the constructive influence over British society that union movements elsewhere in western Europe had managed to gain. Considering the major and medium-sized unions separately, he examines the sudden and rapid growth of unionisation in Britain, the structure of the unions, their effectiveness, the influence they had, their international record, and the nature of trade union democracy.

The Devil's Pulpit, or Astro-Theological Sermons
This book shakes the core of Christian belief. It challenged the uncompromising views of the 19th century Catholic Church, put its author in jail, and was endorsed by Charles Darwin. It's a collection of sermons delivered by reverend Robert Taylor, establishing that Christianity is based on older religions, and that its rituals are descended from ancient Egyptian and pagan practices. It includes an astronomical introduction to Taylor's theories, and a sketch of his tumultuous life.Taylor reveals the real purpose of Jesus and the apostles, providing proof that they're symbols of astronomical phenomena. Jesus being a symbol of the sun, and the twelve apostles of the twelve zodiac signs. He then goes on to unveil secrets about the origin and practices of freemasonry in four lectures.Taylor debated with and beat virtually everyone at the time with the contents of this book. You may find his radical views eye-opening to the uncanny origins of Christianity and religion, but only if you're open-minded enough. You may otherwise find them offensive and blasphemous."...Throwing some doubt on the reality even of the existence in flesh and blood of Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John, for here on the windows of Trinity are they represented as emblems of the seasons, and of these seasons too as they were five thousand years ago."
