This book is designed for three groups of students. The first group is the 7 to 12 year olds, who are working towards Key Stage 2 SATs Assessment Tests in Year 6. If you are in this group, then you are at the end of your Primary School stage, and are about to start Secondary School.The second group is made up of students who are preparing for 11+ exams for independent and grammar schools. This book provides a comprehensive course in spelling, and vocabulary development at this stage; together with comprehension and word-power development skills, needed for both verbal reasoning and creative writing. The third group is made up of 7 to 12 year olds, who work independently at home or in school. This book, for chilldren 8 to 11 years old, aims to spark their interest in Shakespeare's work at an early age. The book introduces children to the Bard's world and his life and times; to prevent the usual fear of the language later on in advanced studies. It is about getting young children to enjoy and become excited about the play's storyline, but keeping very much to the format of a play. Therefore, the format and structure of this book maintains the various Acts and Scenes but the storytelling format dominates for easy flow of the story, context and plot of the play. This book can be read by children or it can be read to them by parents or teachers. This Shakespeare for Children - Macbeth also provides a detailled sample of a Lesson Plan for Teachers, with added resources that challenge, and test knowledge of the contents, and provide fun-fact activities for added enjoyment of the play. The Phantom of the Great House is a Gothic play, set in Grenada, with a sub-genre categorised as a psychological thriller. Based on the iconic Great House in the Caribbean, the story combines elements of horror, romance, mystery, seduction, murder, suspense, debauchery, lust, obeah, brutality, zombies, love/lust, treachery, the role of the incubus, madness, the morally corrupt white Planter, and the Great House, as a haunted space. Psychic fear is explored from different perspectives: as the subliminal horrors and dangers of the Caribbean physical landscape; the history of the island that haunts its people; operating socially and culturally as a belief system, and as real haunting, by those who witness the horrific events in the Great House. Thompson's writing, whether Novel, Short stories, Poetry or Plays, continue to address the liminal status of the Caribbean in a post-colonial, post-modernist context. In this Play, she explores the complexities of the colonial legacy; presenting the epistemological effects of colonization that inform her work. Identifying as a Caribbean writer, Roselle Thompson uses her art to delve into some of the deep colonial damage on the psyche of the people, their cultural heritages, and their resultant discourse and thinking. Therefore, this play's themes include the colonial burden on succeeding generations, fragmentation of Caribbean identity, and the role of the Caribbean Writer, in a post-colonial epoch; as being instrumental in either directing or redirecting society.

Papa Bois: King of Paradise is a play about a contemporary Caribbean society, battling against the detrimental effects of globalisation, its fruits of prosperity from returning Caribbean Diaspora migrants, and the consequences for their Caribbean-heritage children. Based on the Caribbean folktale, Papa Bois, this play satirises social conventions and practices held dear by an aged, local Caribbean community, that clash with modern perspectives among the youth, that lead to tragic consequences. In this Play, Novelist, Poet and Playwright, Roselle Thompson, boldly turns conventions and institutions upside down, by exploring characters who embrace foreign cultural mores, social class separation, 'legitimised' debauchery, drug and human trafficking and government impropriety. However, these lifestyles encounter resistance, based on the standards of propriety and belief in the existence of Papa Bois; an African-derived folktale character in the Caribbean region. This framework is set against a multitude of issues that range from Caribbean migrants' pursuit of the American Dream, the Caribbean returnee's creation of 'new' social classes, which are at odds with the cultural and traditional 'backhome' environment. Themes explored include religion, social inequality, owning land, identity, violence, poverty, exploitation and political corruption; versus long-held cultural and traditional practices. Ms Thompson uses her artform to expose the reader to society's arbitrary and often hypocritical, moral and political structures, as well as human/societal flaws, that provoke and challenge viewpoints.
