In the expanded 2nd edition of this work, Rosemarie Dombrowki's poetry dwells between the verbal and the nonverbal through her creation of gripping symbols to represent the everyday life she shares with her autistic son. The result is a lyrical, visceral dance that entices the reader into a music-world of language to sway together with Dombrowski and her son as they navigate the hostilities of medical specialists, the ignobilities of the body, and discover a makeshift communication of sounds and images, where we hang precariously, along with her, between the good days and the bad ones.

These technically experimental poems express an almost religious devotion to the minerals of the Southwest, but they are also a kind of sleight-of-hand, creating a metonymic landscape where every corner of the Southwest represents a human love affair with land, body, and other. Thus, the poems are a geologically obfuscated narrative sequence, a story of our desire for anything volcanic, anything that approximates a cure for the modern world, a heaven of the earth's making.

Rosemarie Dombrowski, geb. Arndt. wurde 1949 in Ohlendorf in der L neburger Heide geboren: lch wuchs mit 2 Geschwistern und meinen Eltern in der Heide auf. Es war eine traurige und harte Kindheit. Trotz der Umst nde war ich eine Frohnatur mit blondem Lockenkopf. Ein richtiges Zuhause, wie andere Kinder, kannten wir nicht. Es gab Tage, da schlief ich bei einer Freundin im Holzschuppen und ging mit ihr am n chsten Tag zur Schule. Das Leben war gepr gt von dem Laster des Alkohols, dem mein Vater verfallen war, und der Gewalt der Mutter gegen ber. Als ich erwachsen war, heiratete ich und bekam zwei gro artige T chter. Der Tod war auch immer ein guter Begleiter meines Lebens. lch verlor meinen ersten Ehemann, mein Freund verstarb fast zeitgleich mit meinem geliebten Bruder.
