PrefaceIn the engineering and design professions, the study of materials is a huge prerequisite to competence and success of projects. It is therefore imperative on practitioners and students to acquaint themselves with the myriad of materials available for application to projects. The book on "DESIGN MATERIALS AND PROCESSESVOLUME 4" covers selected topics on individual materials to meet such needs. It endeavours to look into the history and processes of the identified materials. Applications and classification of the materials was approached from their sources, i.e. metals, polymerics, ceramics and composites. Where possible, diagrams are complemented by photographs to impart clarity to the topics.While looking at materials from an engineering and design perspective, it is not lost to the author the need to entertain the leisure reader as well. Meant for college and university students, the layout and language is intentionally simple enough to be understood by even the leisure reader. The reader will find this book invaluable for all the reasons and needs enumerated above. It is hoped that by the end of such readership, they will gather the necessary knowledge on types of materials, their history and discovery, their processing process, their different types and their applications. Finally, the authors aim is to assist the reader in identifying the materials, using the materials, applying the materials and recommending them to clients/projects appropriately.

However, it should be noted that volume six is not an improvement on volume five, but it is an addition to the scope of individual materials covered along the earlier volumes. The volume covers the history and processes of the identified materials. Applications and classification of the materials was approached from their sources, i.e. metals, polymerics, ceramics and composites. Meant for college and university students, the layout and language is intentionally simple enough to be understood by even the leisure reader. The reader will gather the necessary knowledge on types, history and discovery, processess of materials, their different types and their applications. Finally, the book will help the reader to identify, use, apply and recommend them to clients/projects appropriately.

Das in dieser Studie behandelte Thema ist die aktuelle lokale und globale Umweltethik in der Produktentwicklungspolitik im Rahmen der st ndig wachsenden Kundenanforderungen. Die Studie untersucht den dringenden Bedarf an angemessenen Strukturen f r die Produktgestaltung, an praktischen Instrumenten und an kologischem Bewusstsein bei den Beteiligten im Produktgestaltungsprozess und w hrend des gesamten Produktlebenszyklus. Die vorhandene Literatur beklagt den derzeitigen beklagenswerten Zustand der globalen Umwelt und ihre unz hligen Auswirkungen auf Gesundheit, Lebensraum und k nftige Generationen. Sie verweist auch auf die gro e weltweite Sorge um die Umwelt und die Bem hungen von Einzelpersonen, Regierungen und internationalen Organisationen, diese negativen Auswirkungen zu mildern. In der Literatur werden au erdem die derzeit verf gbaren Methoden zur Ber cksichtigung von Umweltaspekten bei der Produktgestaltung und im Produktlebenszyklus aufgezeigt. Was die Situation in Kenia betrifft, so beklagt die verf gbare Literatur die Unf higkeit und Gleichg ltigkeit im Umgang mit Umweltfragen und dokumentiert die wachsende Krise der wahllos angelegten Abfallhaufen. Die Studie beleuchtet die zunehmenden illegalen M llhalden und ihre kologischen Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt.

En ce qui concerne la situation au Kenya, la litt rature disponible d nonce l'incapacit et l'apathie dans le traitement des questions environnementales et documente la crise croissante des amoncellements d sordonn s de d chets solides. Il libro presentato in questo studio l'attuale questione dell'etica ambientale a livello locale e globale nelle politiche di sviluppo dei prodotti nel quadro delle crescenti richieste dei clienti. Lo studio esplora l'attuale e urgente necessit di strutture adeguate per la progettazione dei prodotti, di strumenti pratici e di consapevolezza ecologica da parte degli stakeholder nel processo di progettazione e nell'intero ciclo di vita del prodotto. La letteratura esistente denuncia l'attuale stato deplorevole dell'ambiente globale e la miriade di effetti sulla salute, sull'habitat e sulle generazioni future. Sottolinea inoltre la grande preoccupazione globale per l'ambiente e gli sforzi compiuti da individui, governi e agenzie internazionali per mitigare questi effetti negativi. La letteratura indica inoltre i metodi attualmente disponibili per assimilare gli aspetti ambientali nella progettazione e nel ciclo di vita dei prodotti. Per quanto riguarda la situazione del Kenya, la letteratura disponibile denuncia l'incapacit e l'apatia nell'affrontare le questioni ambientali e documenta la crescente crisi dei cumuli disordinati di rifiuti solidi. Lo studio mette in evidenza questi crescenti cumuli di rifiuti scaricati illegalmente e i loro effetti ecologici sull'ambiente di vita.
