I have never witnessed any coverage that accurately reflects what life is like for those employed in the industry. There is a lot of media hype, but that does not reflect the actual team members daily routine or what they give up in life to provide this entertainment to the world. There is a lot of stress, and some danger, which is managed, but it takes a personal toll. The stress has to be relieved in some way. You dont just work with your coworkers; you live with them, all over the world. This book reflects one life of a thousand, on one of thirty teams in the sport.

Ruth Parton is a part of the local history that no-one seems to know about, largely because her extraordinary abilities were displayed on the road. She literally gave up family, friends, and a home to be a successful horsewoman. Her direct descendants have provided old family ranch journals, as well as artifacts and archives of her life. The rodeo life had just begun, and initially the women competed with the men. Ruth was acknowledged as the World Champion Relay Racer from 1914 thru 1917. By the 1930's thoroughbred horse racing was growing at established tracks on the west coast. Ruth Parton excelled at that sport as well, winning 45 races at Longacre's in 1945 and 26 wins with a horse named Cyclonic. Ruth was the first woman to be issued a Thourobred Trainers license. She was Native American. Her lifetime included the woman's right to vote, Prohibition, World War One, the Great Depression, the repeal of Prohibition, and World War Two. She was inducted into the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame in 2019. Both forms of horse racing have evolved over time, but Ruth Parton was at the ground level beginning of what is truly an American sport today.

At some point in almost everyone's life, they wish that they could get a redo; a fresh start to do it all over again. When you suffer a TBI (traumatic brain injury) you have no choice, your hard drive is scrubbed clean, and you have to start over with whatever brain you now posses. STAN SAYS: is a fiction account based on a real TBI for a man at fifty three years old. He ran a successful business, and was knee deep in a divorce that included two children. His injury occurred two hundred miles from home, so friends, family, and pets had to travel. All nine of his neurologists suggested that he take up a foreign language, art, or study technology as he recovered because the human brain can generate so much from a clean slate. He was told that he would probably not be able to perform his previous job functions, and should consider a career change. At one point his family was told to just go home and get on with their lives, that he would spend the rest of his life in assisted living. He was also told that he was "lucky". None of them had ever seen anyone survive this type of injury. As if the TBI weren't enough he also had the two upper ribs on his left side through his left lung contacting his heart, and contracted pneumonia while he lay unconscious in the ICU on life support. So you think you're having a bad day? Stan would beg to differ. Stan would say if you're on this side of the grass, there are no bad days. Of course there is a lot of religion, and praying, in this type of environment. Stan won't preach, but he learned from his own immediate rib counting exercise that Adam did not have an "extra" rib over Eve. They both have the same rib count, which made him question his religious beliefs. So whether your down and out in an AA meeting over your foopah's, or you're that CEO that needs to be sitting next to that person in an AA meeting, or you just lost your bid for President of the United States, or your wife just drove your new car into the garage door, and you want a redo, take one. It's up to you. Stan can show you one way. You don't have to break your brain. If you do break your brain, you'll have no choice on the redo.

While many researchers started out as optimists about the promise of social media for broadening participation and enhancing civic engagement, recent events have tempered that optimism. As this book goes to press, Facebook is fighting a battle over the massive disclosure of user information during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign, social analytics company Cambridge Analytica is being revealed as a major player in micro profiling voters in that same election, bots and fake news factories are undermining democratic discourse via social media worldwide, and the president of the United States is unnerving the world as a stream-of-consciousness Twitter user. Literature and theology have long been conversation partners. The great themes of human existence form the subject matter of their shared discussion. However, comedic literature has often been overlooked as a serious means to fostering such theological engagement. This book seeks to rectify this imbalance. By examining selected works of the eighteenth-century playwright and novelist Henry Fielding, we are shown that a comedic world has much to say that is of true theological significance. Recognizing the value of much traditional Fielding research, the author departs from its inherent determinism which, he believes, stifles more fruitful opportunities for interdisciplinary dialogue. Key to his desire to engage the comedic in this conversation, he introduces the interpretative tool of misplacement. By this is meant a continuous parting with the ineffable – the perpetual recognition that in comedic writing there is always a fragile sense of the other. Setting Fielding’s fiction alongside works of contemporary philosophical theology and postmodern works of fiction, the author allows common critical zones such as epistemology, ethics, mimesis, canonicity, and revelation to be investigated. In all these areas, the novel, in Fielding’s hands, displays a powerful comic resonance with a less deterministic theology, and subverts those assumed securities regarding the status of the individual in the world before God. Ultimately, the book offers the challenge of recognizing that the nature of the novel is inescapably theological and that theology itself is, indeed, fictive.
